Many teachers assign homework to student everyday. Do you think that daily homework is necessary for students? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

It is universally acknowledged by parents that receiving education can enlighten children and extricate their mind from the fetters of ignorance. Being an indispensable part of this holy area-education, teachers play a crucial role in culturing students and have a decisive power in arranging students' routine. Among them, a number of instructors choose assigning homework everyday to be an effective method of strengthening students' study ability, which also is broadly accepted by some parents. However, others, like me, keep a great doubt in mind about such teaching strategy.

To begin with, daily homework totally against the movement of alleviating students academic burdens which is advocated by educational experts in recent a few years. After several reports of students committing suicide from unbearable academic burdens and pressures in 1990s, a great attention has been ignited on caring students’ psychological health through the overwhelming movement of alleviating students’ academic burdens. In order to prop up such significant movement, from the first semester of 2009, every and each elementary school in Changsha are
required to help pupils finish their homework within school and appropriate a considerable leisure time for students to relax themselves. With the existence of daily homework, how can we really free students from the nightmare of endless study programmers? How can we essentially change students’ psychological health situation?

Furthermore, daily homework occupies the majority of students' limited time and energy, exceedingly decreasing the possibilities and preferences towards extracurricular activities which play a vital role in cultivating students' personality and capability. The most important function of education at any level is to develop the personality of the individual and the significance of his life of himself, as well as others. This is the basic architecture of a life; the rest is ornamentation and decoration of the structure. One day, if I have a child, I would like him/her to spent his/her most time in painting, singing, dancing or playing with his friends rather than being a bookish kicking the daily homework every night.

Finally, daily homework is always synonymous with arbitrary requirements from teachers, which conversely propel students’ disobedience or rebellious behaviors. In elementary school, because of children's active nature, when face with the dilemma of doing homework or playing outside, a lot of pupils tend to obtain a two-side harvest by copying others' homework. After entering secondary school, with the doubled possibility of behaving rebelliously under the catalyst from the most special stage in life-adolescence, daily homework has served as the most disgusting part of students' life.

Taking all these into account, daily homework, though has been applied in Chinese teaching methodological system for a long time, is totally unnecessary and unwise in cultivating a students’ psychological, academic and individual abilities. As an old saying goes: "Change is the truth", maybe the most emergent issue for professional educators to deal with is reconsidering the real value of daily homework in education area.
