Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? In today’s world, to speak well is more important than to write well. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.



Whether speaking well takes a more essential part in our daily life than writing well is an issue which has created a fierce debate, with proponents claiming that speaking is an art, how to control it, how to delicate it, how to compose it are all the skills needed, whereas, opponents claiming that writing comes to be the reflection of the taste, education level of the one who drew it with a pen. I would like to treat these equally, before I give my point of view.

For the people who give their support to speaking, speaking is known as the art full of emotional and sentimental. Just take the speech of the new president of the United States of America for instance, the words full of passion, ambition and self-confidence about the future of this country apparently fit the inner-heart of the people and the stable decision made by the new group of the government-changes will come to America. Especially when the words brick by brick, block by block, callous hand by callous hand
came out from Osama’s mouth, millions of people gathering at the park whispered their hopes with eyes filled with tears-the hope of innovation of America would come true sooner or later. Also, speaking is an efficient way of communication. As the research hold by a group of British scientists on the ways of communication in 1974, it showed that speaking was more accuracy in communication, while the body language might lead to an opposite meaning and writing was so time-consuming that it was impossible to inform something emergency.

On the other hand, for the ones who insist on the role of writing which people cannot easily shrug off, they treat the writing as a crystal product of the revolution for thousands of years, beginning with the babble, then just communication with the dialect of the tribe, ancient men finally achieved to record their skills, experience, conclusion of the hunting life, imagination of the outer-space, the process of the ritual. All these inherited from one generation to another no matter in the form of legend or poetry, these records offered a way to seek along the footprints of the people. What’s more, writing is a mirror of one. Judgment of the character, the feeling, being educated or not can be referred from one’s letterform. As a result, the nobles of the England manage to have a graceful hand-writing to show their identities.

In summary, it is very probably that the public will never come to the same conclusion on this controversial issue due to their different value and public awareness of varies dimensions. Whether the writing is better than speaking or not, in my nut-shell, I still stand for speaking as in this world we judge people not only from what he worn but also from what he said.
