In this era of rapid social change, both positive and negative idea among persons in whether it is better for children to grow up in the countryside than in a big city. With all aspects carefully considered, I am inclined to the opposite view.

To begin with, there is no denying the fact that children can be well-educated in big cities rather than in the countryside. The predominance reveals in the aspect of not only educational quantities but also methods. As we know, schools in big cities always have plentiful excellent teachers, and the educational methods are varied like multimedia, computers and so on. With the help of these available conditions, kids who lived in big cities will learn more and have wider horizon, which contribute great benefit to their growth up. One of best friend has been experienced in teaching in the countryside as a volunteer .for several days. During the friends meeting after his coming back, he was definitely feeling the educational distance between the city and countryside. He said that education in the countryside is too boring to attractive kids’ interests, teachers only can just do lectures by themselves without any method, which led to the kids were reluctant to go to school. Gradually and eventually, kids would be rejective to learning. Thus, from this aspect, children should grow up in a big city to receive high-quanlitive education.


In addition, children are usually fragile and delicate. The facilities of big cities, such as hospital, can provide completed protection to kids. According to the advanced medical treatment, children who have an emergency can receive the therapy immediately. A recent news happened in our city told that a child was attacked by a viper during kindergarten, but he didn’t realize the effect. He became a little faint until his teacher found it. Fortunately, he was sent to hospital at once and out of danger. Hardly can I imagine the situation without timely aid. If in the far-off countryside, this kid may not so lucky. It would therefore not be too great an exaggeration to say that children would obtain much protection when grow up in big city.

As a city born and bred, I have always regarded the countryside as something you look at through a train window, or something you occasionally visit during the week-end. If you can do without the few pastoral pleasures of the country like fresh air or capacious space, you will find the city can provide your children with the best that life can offer.
