48. Reasons why people work other than earning a living

Though money play an essential role in pople's work,it is not the only reason why people choose to work.Many throw their energy into work just because they make lots fun of  it,while others intend to self-realize in a specific field.



Some people work only for the work itself,not for what the work bring about in addition to itself.They are interested in it so they attain happiness when then work on it.Take me for example,I am a freelance writer right now,and I work diligently on it.As you know,it brings in a modest income,and  I could make much more money doing other things.But I would like to do it even if they do not pay me,since I know I enjoy it.Since life is so short,I want to pursue the true happiness instead of waste time in the secdonary matters.


Furthermore,many people work owing to self-realization.Abraham.h.maslow,author of A Theoty of Human  Motivation Psychological Review,pointed out that individual alway desire to meet physiological needs at the bottom,the safety needs,belongingness and love needs as well as need for self-actualization.Actually,once people have already satisfied the lower needs,they are looking forward to fulfill the higher one.Some people ,especially those with large amount of wealth or expertise,do not give up working because they tend to realize their own value.They prefer to make full use of their capability to contribute to the society.One excellent example is Stephen Hawking,one of the greatest physicists in the word.He could live a prosperous easy life owing to his excellent contribution to the physics,but he could not stop working untill he expired.


Totally speaking,the reason why people choose to work varies from people to people.While some focus on the extrinsic needs,such as economic foundation,others just work to satisfy their intrinsic desire,such as the self-realization and interest.
