Many of the world's lesser-known languages are being lost as fewer and fewer people speak them due to the worldwide use of some special so-called general language such as English, France. While the international communication needs some kinds of uniform language to move away the language barrier, however, I agree with the author that action should be taken to protect the minor language from vanishing out from the world.
First of all, the procedure of internationalization needs a general used language which can be spoken as a uniform language for different nations all around the world. Today, to keep up with the high speeds of widespread of high-technology, and global mobility, people have and need much more opportunities to talk to different people around all corner of the whole world. Particularly, the introducing and widespread using of Internet serves the possibility for contacting between two entirely different people even on the opposite side of the earth. While the only problem left for dealing with is language- a language that all people on the earth can use to communicate each other.
Furthermore, speaking same language helps people to build a good, trustful relationship as well as understand each other. Misunderstanding always leads to suspicion, then leads to hostility, at last evolves into conflicts and wars. thereby, misunderstanding always comes into being when those two meet with each other- a fight is unavoidable as a result. As we know, many wars today broke out between different nations, because they have different language, different religion, and different ideas to some mutual affairs. Had we had a more intimate relationship between each nation by more communication, we would like to save a lot more conflicts and wars around the world.
However, using a universal-used language for communication does not necessarily mean abandon of other lesser used languages. A language identifies a special nation or country, of which there are certain kinds of customs, mores, culture, traditions and civilization. Wiping out a language means losing a mass of culture, arts, knowledge of a nation or country which has long time history and a great deal of accumulation. One might argues that language is only a tool for communication and a universal culture also can do in the world. Yet consider why we have to appeal to save the species which are threatened to be extinct in future. Because we need diversity in the world, and we could not, and dare not to, imagine how it would be if there was only one kind of species-even suppose humankind-left on the earth.
In sum, I agree with the author that we should take steps to prevent our any language from becoming extinct which fewer and fewer people speak. While at the same time, I suggest that we should take a popular language that is worldwide used for communication, which can provide more convenience for communication to each other, accelerate the procedure of internationalization, and then do our human kind a great favor . |
