I agree with the speaker that the study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives. A contrary view would allege that this statement is to ignore the value that history has beyond the day to day activities of human beings and to be shallow to imply that humans only live just to survive rather than planning for the future. Nevertheless, we must focus on those history study area which will make more profit for the development of humans.

To begin with, nothing in the world can avoid the influence of past achievements. History as a mirror is used to represent a study of the past. To contrast with past can human beings well address modern society problems. For example, in the natural sciences, scientists use existing methods and equipment—the results of previous achievements—to make new discoveries and inventions. Newton once said: “the veneration people grant me and the keen perspectives I have are all but because I am standing on the shoulders of uncountable achievers as Galileo, Archimedes and so on”. From this we can realize that it is impossible to make a significant contribution without first being strongly influenced by past achievements in any field of endeavor.

Nevertheless, the past provides no guidance because today is new and complex. Many certain problems unique to today’s world are more complex or challenging than in the past. For example, increasing globalization creates problems in many fields such as politics, military, economics and environment, which are far more complex than in the past. All these problems need people to address through new way whereas the study of history cannot provide more instruction. Moreover, there are few similar things to compare with between now and past – which happened in the past will not be definitely occur in modern times. For example, the experience of alchemy and astrology, or even bloodletting treatment will provide no mean to modern science because these works have been proven to be wrong.

After all, many current problems we faced today are the aftermath of the similar unfathomed problems in the past. For that matter, it is difficult to estimate whether a study of history is just relevant to our daily lives. For instance, if one knows few about the history of Jew, it is impossible for he or her to give a comprehensive elucidation about the durative conflict between Israel and Palestine. To treat such type of problem, people need not only the study of history, but also the innovation in order to deal with concrete matters relating to work more efficiently. Even though many history research are carrying though as usual, people today still cannot be sufficiently understood the value of history research. Moreover, in many field of endeavor, many valuable history information and experience are always be ignored by today’s people. Thus, how to efficiently make good use of history research is the urgent thing which people should consider at first.

In sum, history is complex result of human behavior. People always can find guidance from history research in many filed. However, at the same time, one will also be confused by those specious analyses of culture value and neglect of data collection in many history literatures coming from the history researchers. To efficiently research history, people should focus on the valuable information based on the need of modern society’s demand. More Telesis the history researcher have, more efficiency people will do in the daily work.
