Argument 15The following appeared in a newsletter offering advice to investors.

"Over 80 percent of the respondents to a recent survey indicated a desire to reduce their intake of foods containing fats and cholesterol, and today low-fat products abound in many food stores. Since many of the food products currently marketed by Old Dairy Industries are high in fat and cholesterol, the company's sales are likely to diminish greatly and their profits will no doubt decrease. We therefore advise Old Dairy stockholders to sell their shares and other investors not to purchase stock in this company."


The author provided important information on the food industry but the investors might be too careless to decide on selling or buying Old Dairy stock based on this piece of advice.

If we believe the source of the survey result is reliable and the pool was statistically big enough to have generated a scientific conclusion, the over 80 percent negative responses on high fat and cholesterol food still don’t point to a quick shift to low fat food in the general food market. Revolution takes time. As almost everyone in China complains about the Chinese educational method and even the whole system, thousand of millions Chinese are still taking Chinese education as their only option, simply because some can’t afford an education in the developed countries, while others just don’t want any abrupt change as they have been brought up in society where Chinese education is the mainstream. The same principle works in the case of the food revolution if there is going to be one. Factories need time to convince the top managers that their products should go low fat, while consumers need time to adjust to the taste of low fat low cholesterol food. Any quick responce on the food market is not likely to be seen.

Secondly, the fact that Old Dairy's high fat high cholesterol food are presently available in food stores doesn't indicate this company is not producing more healthier food. If there are more signs showing people's taste have turned to low fat low chelesterol food, Old Dairy Industries, as a front player in the erena, should have somehow smelled the change before lots of survey agent, and therefore has made posible change to their production plan accordingly. Even if this company has failed to sense the change in the first place, it can certainly catch up with healthy food productions following the trend of the market, just like many IT companies are catching up with each other on the latest laptop and everyone enjoying profit as a result as long as the company keeping pace with the whole market. So, either an early response or a later one, Old Dairy is not likely to lose profit drastically as the author has assumed.

To sum up, it's fair to suggest the investors not rush into any quick decision just because their are signs for shift in the market, as the shift might a motor for the target company to grow. Watching the market and the way Old Dairy responds to the market before any new investment plan would be wiser than any selling or buying made on poor based assumptions.

Loyalty is a virtue, which brings positive result to oneself and his/her social circle and relevant institutions.

Being loyal to a friend is to make an effort to maintain the relation based on mutual understanding and benefication. Likewise, being loyal to an institution, be it a school or place of employment, is to adjust oneself to that very position in the institution by following the game rule there and to make any contribution that benefit the institution. Loyalty is a positive force as it appeals an individual to be truely committed to a relation or job position, to understand what he/she can contribute and make that contribution willingly and effectively.

Some might argue that being loyal leads to unwillingness to change and thus hinders one moving forward. This idea obviously ignores that a real deep understanding of a relation or group would make one think for improvement both for oneself and the relevant group. When Aristotal said his love for truth is stronger than love for his teacher, he's not betraying but obeying what the teacher had taught him. Seeking truth is the essence of the traditional Greek intellectuals' spiritual life. Aristotal understood this well. By seeking what lies behind the teacher's opinions and generating new ideas to deepen the Greek philosophy, he was showing loyalty to his great teacher and the whole education system.

Besides, as long as one cherishs loyalty, he/she could and would make contribution to that institution after leaving the original place. Such contributions could be an endeavor to bring talented people to the institution, to introduce business opportunities, or simply to spread nice words about the institution. After studing in the university for 4 years, I was given the opportunity to further my education without test, which sounded like a precious grand to some students but not for me. I tried to concentrate on the lab work as a graduate student but couldn't focus becasue I think it's high time I went out to see the world with my own eye and find a suitable job position. Off I went. Most of my teachers and classmates thought I was betraying my tutor and the university but I thought otherwise, I'm living the best of my life and looking for the most suitable position in the society is exactly what the university needs everyone to do. I was asked to talk to my schoolmate one year after I quit school, on how a newly graduated student should expect from the society and finds a suitable position. From the noding of the audience, I saw my loyalty to the university.

Without the feeling of committement and long lasting loyalty, I can't imagine how could a person make a real effort to understand the essence of his friends, bosses and other social contacts, and bring about all the positive changes when necessary.

首先，大家作为新手能起步就很好。文章的两个观点都不落俗套，最突出的是类比和举例论证都很好，尤其是第一段的类比论证值得大家学习。（但要注意举中国的例子一定要讲清楚）
可以改进的地方我觉得首先是应该增加一个攻击点，不然可能被认为遗漏主要的攻击点，比如survey，大家都会去攻击，最好不要一带而过，有简单一段就好。其次是最后总结的一段首句貌似和他、结论不相干，此处我觉得最好放中心句。最后，就是我也很担心的问题，主体段写的很丰满造成的时间问题，希望大家一起共勉。

文章一如作者的Argument，有很好的例子。但首先，个人感觉题目的主旨是要求论述忠诚是否具有破坏性，整篇论述忠诚的好而忽略破坏性是值得商榷的。其次举例子的时候，最好不要长篇大论地阐述个人经历，因为其说服力貌似不被认可。
