第一次不小心写错了Issue写了I35,只好交两篇I不写A了
TOPIC: ISSUE26 - "Most people would agree that buildings represent a valuable record of any society's past, but controversy arises when old buildings stand on ground that modern planners feel could be better used for modern purposes. In such situations, modern development should be given precedence over the preservation of historic buildings so that contemporary needs can be served."

Old buildings, which seem useless and occupy much precious land, are doomed to disappear and release much space for our increasing needs for land, as many people assert. However, we must be regretful for it if we do that. Can we appreciate the glory of the Summer Palace anymore after it was destructed in the fire? A building can be built in other place if it is not built yet, while historic relic cannot restore easily once destroyed. As a matter of fact, our exploded increasing needs for land are a reflection of our endless desire and the serious population problem.

There is no denying that in some cases we should give precedence to modern development over the preservation of those old buildings. For example, if a district with a large population suffers from flood every year and the annoying situation can be resolved by constructing a dam which would make many old buildings being overwhelmed. In this situation, public's safety should be given priority to and these historic buildings cannot be an obstacle to save hundreds of lives every year. Moreover, there are some old buildings without much special values at all.

However, I do oppose to tear down these buildings in most cases, since these buildings record the culture of an era. Caves can be viewed as human being's primitive buildings to live in, contain much valuable information of our ancestors. For example, the pictures carved on the walls of these carves record their daily life and even emotions which provide historians the most precious data to study more about them. Various old churches in Europe are not only buildings constituted with stones, but also an assembly of art, literature, philosophy, and people’s behaviors and so on. They represent diverse cultures of the past. Without these buildings, we erase many memories of human being, lose many priceless masterpieces of our ancestors, and even lose many cultures of the past days.

Some people argue that these old buildings are belonging to the past, while we are belonging to the contemporary and the future. Therefore, if there is the need we can always replace the old with new creations. However, they ignore a fact that in most cases these historic buildings can be compatible with modern skyscrapers if well designed. Actually, it is not the futility of the historic buildings and the urgency of contemporary needs that destroy these valuable arts, but the terrible avarice of human beings occupies the narrow space of them. The exploding population, the everlasting demand for more and more comfortable life and more and more space to live in, these all contribute to requirement to build new comfortable skyscrapers on those historic buildings. The earth is not a planet with infinite space, even all the old buildings are tearing down, all the mountains are turning into plain, all the lakes are filled with earth, how can it satisfy human being if we are fail to control our population and withhold our desire? The root of the confliction between modern needs and those historic buildings is not those buildings do occupy too much space, but we human being’s requirement expanding more and more rapidly.

In sum, other more essential problems rise up when we discuss this topic. Maybe we should concern more about the population problem and the control of our extravagant demand. Only these two problems be well resolved can the historic buildings be reserved as well as the contemporary needs be satisfied.

TOPIC: ISSUE35 - "No matter what the situation, it is more harmful to compromise one's beliefs than to adhere to them."

Beliefs, reflections of a person's attitude towards this complicate world, would not always guide us to the correct road. In another words, it's necessary for us to stick to our principles and beliefs in most cases, while there are not without exceptions. It's recommended to adopt a more flexible way in our daily life when fall in the dilemma of compromising or sticking to our beliefs.

Admittedly, each of us should stick to his own belief-if it doesn't harm others or it benefits the public. Actually, such adherence is an expression of honest which is a merit of human beings universally. If a person seldom adheres to his principles and varies constantly, would anyone trust him anymore? Telling lies, as a matter of fact, is a violence of compromise to our own beliefs, since honest is actually an overall belief of human. Of course we won't believe in a guy who is often telling lies. However, compromise one's beliefs is much more than telling lies. If we were planning to finish our homework yesterday, while other interesting things attracted our attention made us giving up the plan to go to have a play, then we have violent our beliefs which require us do what we have promised to. If a politician doesn't carry out his promised policy after his election, then voters would believe in him less since he have broke his political principles and beliefs. These examples just illustrate part of negative effects that compromise our own beliefs bring about. It's a matter of morality that requires us to stick to our beliefs.

Moreover, there are other reasons for us to adhere to our beliefs. It's well known that one's beliefs is the core of his attitude toward this world. Most of what we do is actually guide by our beliefs. Why we work hard to explore the nature day and night? It's just we have the belief that our diligent work can promote the progress of human civilizations. The person who frequently violates his belief, in fact, has no beliefs, since belief is a strange spirit that would not change easily. How terrible it is if a man has no beliefs! He will be immersed in the confusion about the meaning to exist in this world, or lead a life that without others’ respect. In a word, beliefs give us the meanings of life.

From what we discuss above, there is no denying the fact that sticking to our beliefs is dispensable in most cases. However, this not means that we should adhere to them absolutely. Sometimes, sticking to our beliefs will be detrimental. For example, if there is a robber who want to kill you and you have no chance to survive unless you kill him, would you stick to you belief that never kill anyone? Maybe someone would choose to adhere to it, since his death does no harm to others. However, in some cases, compromise to your own beliefs will be dangerous to the public. Consider such a situation, if one day you find that your dad is a terrorist and he is contriving a terrorism which would kill hundreds people if succeed, can you still stick to the belief that never do anything detrimental to your father and keep this issue secret? Absolutely you can't! Hundreds people will lose their lives for your compromise!

To sum up, we should be more flexible to determine whether to compromise or to stick to our beliefs. We should remember that the world never stop changing, hence we should not always stick to one thing, instead, some changes are necessary for us to adapt these variance and enable us contribute our best to our society.
