Issue 212 "If a goal is worthy, then any means taken to attain it is justifiable."
In this contradictory era of pragmatism and idealism, urgent social issues and expanded future development, joy of success and fear of lose, a state of perplexity frequently arise in front of everybody. Undoubtedly, with great expectation and efforts towards our target, we easily fall into the same opinion with the speaker. However, in my point of view, this assertion goes too far to the extreme. To judge whether a means (单复同型) is justifiable or not, both the value and feasibility of the goal should be considered, as well as the efficiency for the measures to achieve it.
First of all, only the goals, which of positive, virtuous and sufficient goals towards positive advancement for individuals and society, can be classified as worthy goals, (非常及时地定义了worthy goals) but not vice versa. To begin with, in the individual sense, no matter how serious and urgent a goal turns out to be, one is not supposed to determine and achieve a goal which is either detrimental for others or destructive for himself/herself. Bad goals are ultimately proved to be not worthy. People eventually hurt themselves when they spent tremendous time and money to arrange conspiracies to harm others with hostility. Officers who involved in the corruptions usually pay a lot to establish a good interpersonal relationship and thus try to cover the crime they do, followed by the punishment of Laws. (作者举例的功夫了不得,我每次之所以字数少,就是例子没有描述好或者没有例子) In addition, in regard to the groups, organizations and even countries, goals in the direction to destroy others so as to satisfy their own greed to seek profits or political aspirations are always substantiated to be unworthy by history. Nazi illustrated perish due to their lust in the war.(有点问题吧,不知道怎么改,两个动词在一起) No matter how much money and resources are spent on nuclear destructive weapons cost (cost 删除), nobody will agree destroying the world is a worthy goal. Therefore, to judge a goal is worthy or not, the premise of the goal’s characteristic should be considered with the highest priority.
Furthermore, as mentioned above, not all the goals with positive significance are equally regarded to be worthy, until they can prove their feasibility, and practicability.
(观点很好) Persistence, striving and continuous efforts are all good characters on our way towards our goals, but if all these efforts contribute to a non-sense result, it equals to squander, no mention worthy or not. Can we imagine we dedicate a long-term research on some impossible target in academic? To achieve a goal for a perpetual motion machine, Leonardo da Vinci, the scientific giant, after nearly twelve years search in this field, inevitably failed. Or, to be fairy, can we exhaust the inspiration of all the students in an honorable university for several years with tremendous amount of scholarship to find a way to return back to yesterday? The goal might help human being to save diminished (换成extinct) animals’ species, but is of no possibilities at all. To conclude, only a virtual goal which doesn’t obey the natural principles deserve efforts. (总结得很不错)
Last but not least, assuming the goals can be determined as worthy; “any means taken to attain it”
is too extremely to be agreed. There are always the most direct and efficient ways to approach a goal. In business world, to seek the maximum profit with the minimum cost is the rule. In science area, on the basis to satisfy the requirements, the speed to obtain efficiency is emphasized as well as the quantity, which leads to the revolution of industry. And also, in academic area, taking computer science as an example, the laconic design both in software structure and in code design are widely advocated. Thus, to extend these fields to our life, if just simply to wear clothes, nobody prefers to design a robot to help, only if this is for an automobile application goal. Hence, in the environment with limited resources, people need figure out the most efficient ways to proceed on the way for their goals.
To sum up, goal, as a motive for human beings to progress their life, should be thoroughly meditated with the substance for a conclusion about their values. Meanwhile, the measures to attain goals call for the best efficiency; after all, we are living in a resources-limited world.

能不能把文章的重心稍微往题目的后面半句移动一下。。。
TOPIC: ARGUMENT200 - Statistics collected from dentists indicate that three times more men than women faint while visiting the dentist. This evidence suggests that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. Thus, dentists who advertise to attract patients should target the male consumer and emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering patients.
In this argument, a plausible reasoning has been represented concerning the dentist visiting issue.
The arguer described that based on some statistics, the men are seemingly more distressed about dental work, and thus the dentists should target the consumers more in men and meanwhile emphasized their anesthetic techniques and sensitivity of their stuff. After detailed analysis, I find several flaws hiding in this argument.
First of all, there is no evidence to prove whether the statistics are believable or not. First, it is lack of information about who provided the statistics data. It is possible that it only came from a street oral survey and the samples are quite few. Moreover, the samples composition is another questionable point. As it is a result in regard to the sexual portion, the sample numbers for men and women should be equal or at least similar, based on large numbers to recognition of most people.
And also, if the statistic is available for the dentist clinics who gave this suggestion is doubtful as well.(想表达什么意思?) It is entirely possible this statistics was from many years ago and it’s not of value for recent years, or, it is from the survey in U.S which only available for Northern American area but the dentists who advertised this suggestion are actually in Asia. Thus, if the statistics is reasonable or not, is lack of further detailed (意义重复)support. (想表达什么意思?语法上读不通)
Secondly, even if we concede that the statistics can really illustrate that men are more likely to be distressed about dental work, the assumption that the causal relationship between the evidence and conclusion that dentists should target in male consumer is in short of legitimacy. It is quite possible that men are much less than women in visiting the dentists because women tend to take about the good looking of their teeth.
In this case, if the dentists only target the male would have a decline on visiting of women patients, who are in determinant proportion in all patients. Thus the suggestion would lead to an unexpected result.
Finally, the recommendation that both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering patients accomplishes nothing in bolstering the attraction in more patients. From our experience, when a patient chooses which dentist to visit, the most elements under his or her consideration are more likely to be that whether the dentist is skillful, whether the environment of cure are agreeable to relax, and their the (删掉the)dentist is the accustomed one for he or she.读起来怪怪的 Hence, if dentists just consider effectiveness of anesthetic techniques and sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering patients, it’s possible that the men consumers are not going to be less distressed than before(换成choose them 更直接、不要过分扩展 ). (不知道作者认同我的观点不:其实,这里并没有完全论证,因为题目本身就不好组织。所以这段的总结有些牵强)
After the scrutiny, the intention is good, but it is fraught with logical flaws and therefore unconvincing as it stands. If more possibilities that why fainted men are three times than women can be considered, if more relationship between potential patients and original patients could be accounted, and if more elements of how patients choose one dentist could be recognized, the suggestion could be more advisable.

这次的A不好写,在secondly那段里,虽然让步于统计结果有效性,但是没有回避男病人比女病人昏倒多三倍的问题。也可能是我没有把问题分析清楚,导致的理解问题。
不过比我写的好多了 哈哈。。。加油。。both |
