The video camera provides such an accurate and convincing record on the highlights of our modern society that become more and more important form of documentation, even more important than the traditional written records as the speaker asserts.
From my point of view, the written records plays an indispensable role in recording abstract contents while the video camera provide a more vivid description of our daily life. We can't say which is more important so hastily because they have their own advantages.

With the ability to record the dynamic motions, the video camera helps a lot in describing the concrete events and building our corporeal understanding. No matter how excellent the reporters are, their records on a concrete event, such as an amazing performance or a wonderful match, can match the video shot by video camera in concrete understanding. Compared to the reports on a tough NBA game, most people prefer to see the video of the match. The words are barren to describe the prefect last shoot of Michael Jordan in the critical moment of the 6th game in Finals. Similarly, unless see by yourself, how can you believe the marvelous moonwalk of Michael Jackson? Because of these amazing shows video cameras bring out, the significance of this form of documentation arouse widely approbation.

Compared to the great advantage video cameras got in accurate depicting concrete events, the written records have its own ability in the accurate record of abstract things. Considering the legal documents, we have not seen any example being recorded in video, although some law events are debated under the record of the video camera. Every word of these authorized documents have been cogitated and augustly written. The abstract meanings of these complicated issues are beyond the range of video cameras. Similarly, taking all these textbooks and papers about science and technology into account, the written records once again play a dominating role. Even the most fundamental mathematical formulas and physics laws can only be recorded in the special form of words. As our human civilization are base on these abstract intelligence, the indispensability the written records can be affirmed in human society.

Even in the foreseeable future, the function of the traditional written records in abstract fields can not be replaced by video camera or other modern forms of documentation, even with the advancement of technology. The advanced technology gives us a easier life with more convenience. For example, so many foolproof devices such as point-and-shoot cameras, fully automatic washing machines and the windows have been invented for the easier use of ordinary people. To some extent, more convenience means less abstract thinking. Then more advanced the video cameras are, more convenience in the process of using and nothing are improved concerning the record of the abstract.

In summary, both video cameras and written records are important in the documentation of our contemporary life. They contribute more to the different side of our life, the concrete and the abstract. Video cameras cannot replace the function of the traditional written records and vice versa. We can’t say which is more important, just like a man can’t determine which eye of his is more important, for he doesn’t want to lose any one.
