"The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."


  The speaker asserts that studying history is valuable only insofar as it is relevant to our daily lives which I generally agree with. Anyway,the aim of any subject or field of study should be implied into reality to make  improvement in human life,and history is unexceptional. Moreover, I think the value of history study is beyond this.

  One important respect of the value of history study is that we can obtain much instruction and inspiration. Learning the individuals and circumstances in history is a good trial of the learner's moral sense, and it should be honed against some of the real dilemmas that the individuals faced in the past. Through studying the stories of the great men and women, can provide much lessons in courage ,diligence and persistence. A student who studies the stories of a famous scientist may be touched by the scientist's qualities and gain great passion for his own study of science, and he may even devote himself into the territory of science.

  Another significant respect of the value of history study is that we can test what we plan to do today in history. A common individual would use his own and people surrounding's experience as his guidance. But any individual's experience is too limited and in fact he will often pay some cost which may be so grave to gain such experience. By studying history, limitless experience can be gained for free. Many times when we are hesitating on some choices and feel helpless, the best advisor should be the history.


  Besides, a main motivation that we study history is the nature of desiring to know more about ourselves and our ancestors. Basic questions such as who we are, where we come from have always troubling us along the way we grown up. Studying history can give us answers. Our identity can be confirmed from history. And we can learn much about our ancestors' culture and custom from history which can can help us understand the culture and custom today.

  In sum , the speaker's assertion that history study has value only to the extent that it has relevance to our daily life is fundamentally right while history can also provide numerous instruction,inspiration,experience,and other knowledge.
