ISSUE13
Many of the world’s lesser-known languages are being lost as fewer and fewer people speak them. The government of countries in which these languages are spoken should act to prevent such languages from becoming extinct.
1.从世界范围来看,单调的文化氛围是无趣的。Cultural diversity comes from language diversity, religious diversity, history diversity.
这些因素在一起,让我们有了cultural identity和 a sense of security and belonging.
The reason why the rainbow is so gracious is that it does not resist any kind of color, the reason why our lives are so beautiful is that they do not resist diversity. I agree with the statement above that when a language is dying out, the country's
government should take responsibilities to preserve them, as languages have great significance from macroscopic views to microscopic ones, and world's need for diversity.
Macroscopically, in this age of increasingly globalization, our world have a tend to be unified. To be all the same is boring. When we stand in front of a piece of lenon, before we start painting, the empty, unified background will definitely be outshined by the colorful work we then
provide, so is the lingual world, a important piece of culture world as it is.
To prevent the lesser-known languages from extinction is the same as to protect the colors we use to paint in the lingual world.
What's more? The languages also contribute great significance in both social and intellectual level. It is so vital to subjects such as archeology, etymology, history and other associated fields. For example, the study of languages gives us keys to unlock the door of the detail of our trace on earth as a spice. The anthropologists and historians emptying their endeavor into the pursuit of knowing how our human race scattered and developed all around the world, will shame dead on the loss thousands of languages in that the method they are using is to arrange a language family tree and observe how they were connected with each other.
As another aspect of the intellectual level, the value in art is also lost hand in hand with languages' extinction. We all know that art is the gift from god and the treasure for human race as an entity. There are kinds of art root on language, for instance, the poets, the songs, the rhythms and the stories, whose carrier is the original language in which they were composed. It is surely that the original beauty of poets and songs will be buried together with the language in the same tomb. For example we can imagine that when Chinese extincts, where could the rhythmic grace of poets and songs go?
Finally and microscopically, the oral and written history is so critical for the indigenous people, therefore the language is of the same significance. The language is the most immediate connection between us and our ancestors, it help us to identify the people from our groups and create a sense of belonging and security. In other words, the language, which represent the history and memories of the past, creates our cultural identities and helps us to understand who we are.
In a starry night, when you laid down on the grassland and shocked by the stars' perpetuality, you cannot help thinking that you are so tiny when confronting the infinite time, and also cannot help thinking about who we are exactly apart from the dressing, occupations, genders. The answer is we are just parents to our children, kids to our parents, and then the same question goes backwards along generations. Suddenly and finally we find that knowing what our ancestors do, what do they like and things such as what they usually talk about is so sweet and lucky, then you learn to cherish the native language you speak, the original history you belong to.
In sum, as the significance of language in representing history and human identity is so grand, the importance for intellectual and social function is so irreplaceable and the precious meaning in keeping the world colorful, we should never let the languages go nowhere to be found, and therefore the government on behalf of its people, should be the one who take actions. |
