  The speaker's assertion is that the cheif benefit of the study of history is to break down the illusion that people in one period of time are significantly different from people who lived at any other time in history.I concede that the study of history bring us a benefit that it present the same parts of people's essential charactors and inter emotions in different period of time in history.But,in my view,it is not the cheif benefit,at least,it is not the only one "cheif" benefit  that history provide.In contrary,when history present the same parts of people of different periods,it also reveal the different phnomenon of the world in different period of history which make us realize the development of human civilization.
  As the speaker's claim,the study of history help us recognize the same charactor or emotions of human beings.In fact,many essential inter emotions and motivations of human beings in different time of history are the same.For the reason is that,as we all know,the development of history is a continuous and slow process,there should be lots of essential sense of value or inter emotions remain the same no matter how significantly the outer world has changed.For example,we all feel gratitude when recieve other's help,and we tend to compensate him or her in some other affairs by helping him or her back or giving stuffs.Further more,when we hurt someone's heart or defend others casually,we feel embarrass and regretful.On contrary,if we are humiliated or defended by others,we feel suprise and angery which are,sometimes, motivations for us to fight with them.These inter emotions and motivations are the most significantly same parts of people in different period of history.These feelings or charactors are not change with the development of human civilization.The study of history help us realize these same charactors of human beings,and in convert,these unchanged charactors of human beings can help expert to analysize the motivations of some historical vital roles.
  Besides,there are lots of social situations among our society remain the same no matter how developed the human civilization has achieved.We tend to confront with these situations everyday in home,work place or even street.In spite of how the outer material world has changed,the essential pattern of these social situation are the same.For instance,whether in history or not,we have to deal with our relationships with neibours,collages,boss and so forth.No matter what period of time we live in,the methods to get position promoted,the problems of corruption,the law of value are not change.The study of history also help us to realize these situations we confront with today are the same as our ancestors confront with in history.Therefore,we can learn experience from our ancestors to deal with these situations by studying of history.
  However,the fact that our science and technologies are developing all the time cannot be ignored.The quality of people's daily lives are promoted a lot compared with our ancestors in history.The function of history that it can reveal these differences to citizens is as important as its function of presenting the same parts of human beings in different time of history.It make us realize the significant deeds we human beings created andd possess.
  In sum,the study of history not only provide us a picture of differnces between people in one period of time and people lived in other periods of time in history,but also make people realize the same and unchanged parts no matter how the outer world changed with the procede of history.These two major benefits of studying of history are equalvaluant and both important to the process of better understanding of human civilization.
