I agree with the speaker's broad assertion that academic field can be benefit from truly independent thinkers who are willing to ignore established boundaries and challenge long-standing assumptions.  But does this work on any academic field, or whether the leadership for the innovate person, is still open to doubt. People who work within established boundaries under long-standing assumption will also contribute a lot to the science research. Both people are necessary in all academic field while we should regard the different science research respectively as well.

Creative person who hold a critical thinking, daring to question acknowledged theories and take action will always enhance the development of any science researches. The history of astronomy is the history of challenge to tradition. Copernicus advanced the theory that the earth and other planets around the sun. With his theory disrupting the Ptolemaic system of astronomy, astronomy got its chance to go ahead. Darwin's revolutionized theory of evolution based on nature science ignores the established boundaries in theology and makes a great achievement. The more one topples down the previous theory successfully, the more achievement an individual contribute to the field.

We also concern that the accumulation of basic knowledge no matter in science, literature or arts. Through the Propulsion Model of Creativity, by Robert J. Sternberg in 2003, we learn that there are 8 kinds of different creativity, and rejecting the previous ones is one of them, there are moving theories forward, combining conceptions properly, convert the direction of the theory and so on. All aptly accelerates the development of research in any field. Newton ever said, if I have seen further, it is by standing upon the shoulder of giants. The string theory combines the quantum theory and relative theory and developed a comprehensive theory. English language generates from French, Latin, and Spanish, as well as Chinese. It is still absorb from other established language and develop itself. In art and literature, reading more classical articles and former great works, can greatly help one's current study and future development.  

We acknowledge both the innovated person and people who stand on a firm academic background. But whether the preference of leadership belongs to the people who is high in creativity is problematic. In order to lead the academic field, one needs strong will, sense, cooperation and leadership. How could we put a person who prefers the book much more than the people to be the leader of the research, no matter how creative he is?

In conclusion, I agree with the speaker that people who willing to ignore established boundaries set by previous theories and daring to challenge the tradition will do good to the academic development. But we also can not ignore the practical person who does research precisely on the shoulder of former aspects. We should consider the person's character as well as whether he is truly willing and able to leads the group goes ahead. Anyway, the personality of individual and the specialty of the precise academic field is the two dimension of our aspects which we should take into consideration, and we can't ignore it as if it was the established boundaries.
