Some people concerned that beginners have unrestrained minds and courage which are the motive to make discoveries. While other people believe that through experience and intensive knowledge in their disciplines experts are more likely to make discoveries. As far as I am concerned, both beginner and expert can make important discoveries.
Admittedly, in any field of inquiry, the beginner is more vigorous and more curious to materials. There are several reasons why beginners can make discoveries though they have insufficient experience comparing to experts. Firstly, being beginners they have strong interests in the disciplines. Interests are the best teacher to students. Through the strong curiosity and interests, students can more motivate to find out the truth behind materials and problems. Secondly, while they are lacking experiences, as some sense they are less strained by those disciplines in their areas. Sometimes they can use a new perspective to inquire the truth in their area. For example, the chronic leukemia is a kind of blood cancer most medical experts devoted their lives to search treatment in several hundred years. One senior student in medical school raised the idea inspired from an old folk treatment in history, using one kind of poison named arsenic to treat the chronic leukemia. In experts’ eyes how could use poison to treat cancer patients, through deep researches the student proved that arsenic had true effect to cure chronic leukemia. The young students used an impossible way to resolve the problem puzzling human being about in several hundred years, though he was just a beginner in clinical medicine.
However, experts having their plentiful experiences and abundant knowledge in their disciplines also could make significant discoveries. No matter in which area, such as art, politics, science, social science etc, lots of discoveries was found by experts. Watt modified streamer and brought out the empire of stream energy. Through using his knowledge in computer science, Bill gates contributed the Microsoft company and bring us into the empire of computer technology. Therefore, it is obviously that experts could use their abundant knowledge and the ability of creation to resolve problems and make discoveries, but on the other hand, sometimes they are restrained by their conservation. In the old age of Watt, what he did most was how to protect his patents but not how to further modified his streamers. On the contrary, he wasted his money and time on course to pursuit others, and he also forbid his students to touch or question his inventions. What he did in his old age is far from the critical thinking, so he had no significant discoveries in his old age.

What is important to discoveries is the critical inquiring ability, which can help researchers find out problems, ask problems, investigate problems, interaction with other one else who hold different ideas, find ways to resolve problems, reflect from answers and eventually make discoveries. Through critical inquiring, they can become more creative and broad minded without limited to their own ideas, and it is the premise of discovery. This ability could be use to in the process of inquiry in arts, social science, science area and so on. Just through the unlimited inquiry, our human beings could get one and another discoveries and help our society develop in a spiral way.
In sum, both beginners and experts could contribute to any field of inquiry, what is most important to them is to maintain the sprit of the critical inquiring ability to resolve problems.
