- "In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."
Outline:
+: Faculty with professional experience can bring students practical examples to better explain contents in the text book and incite student’s interest (engineering is industry oriented).
+: Faculty who are active engaged in works can give students up-to-date information about job market (students in basic disciplines are often at lost what career to take in).
-: Required working time would distract faculty from research which are of the top importance to faculty's academic lives and might result in loss of outstanding faculty.
Whether faculty at the college and university should spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach to improve the quality of instruction have always come with controversy. I fundamentally agree what the speaker claims for experience in profession world benefits both in-class and outside-class instructions of the faulty. But it is also important to keep balance between professional work and teaching.
In the first place, faculty who are active in professional fields will bring their students fruitful background in real world. It is especially the case when we are referring to academic areas such as engineering, which are industry-oriented from the time they came into being. For example, the science of optimization and scheduling are inspired from the increasingly lager scale and complexity of the manufacturing and delivery systems. Faculty in this area who are actively engaged in professional world are able to bring students practical and real-world examples to better explain and verify the principles and theories discussed in the text books. In my experience as a student, these examples always arouse my interest and excitement to dedicate into study, through which I gain more profound understanding about the field.
Secondly, experienced faulty can provide up-to-date instructions to students who are serious in seeking a career in that field. It is especially necessary fot students major in basic science fields such as mathematics and physics who want to lead a career in professional world, because these areas are so widely applied in almost every disciplines that the students are often at lost where to go. Keeping pace with the changing demands of work as a professional, faculty can give students insightful information about present job market and what work in the field entails form them to make informed decision, which college career consultants who are not equipped with such experience and specific knowledge in the area can not provide.
However, spending much time outside the academic world would, to be sure, distract faculty's attention from their research and teaching on which they ought to concentrate. Although facilitating faculty to impart more attractive and practical knowledge, theories and technologies, professional experience itself does not make up for any successful instruction, aside from some complement. Excellent teaching of the course is rooted in thorough research in that field which is most closely related to academic lives of faculty and always comes in the first for faculty in college and university to devote their time and energy. The obliged working time outside academic areas might cause the university to lose outstanding faculty member and thus result in declined level in course instructions. It is the duty of faculty to keep balance between professional work and teaching.
In conclusion, it is generally helpful for faculty to be engaged in professional work related to the course they teach because it would enrich students' insight of the vocation and the career. However, compulsory working time of professional work, as the speaker suggests, is far from necessity and would do harm to the instruction of the course. College and university should encourage, rather than require, faculty to involve in professional work and give their attentions to the tradeoff between teaching, research and professional work.

Whether faculty at the college and university should spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach to improve the quality of instruction have always come with controversy.---我自己写的时候也是,第一句话一直提醒自己要改短一些,不要抄原文,但是还是没有成功,呵呵!不过你已经比我好多了! In conclusion, it is generally helpful for faculty to be engaged in professional work related to the course they teach because it would enrich students' insight of the vocation and the career. In the first place, faculty who are active in professional fields will (用would会不会比较好)bring their students fruitful background in real world. Secondly, experienced faulty can provide up-to-date instructions to students who are serious in seeking a career in that field. It is especially necessary fot (for)students major in basic science fields such as mathematics and physics who want to lead a career in professional world, because these areas are so widely applied in almost every disciplines that the students are often at lost(the students often got lost个人意见呵呵) where to go. Keeping pace with the changing demands of work as a professional, faculty can give students insightful information about present job market and what work in the field entails form (这里是不是for啊?)them to make informed decision, which college career consultants who are not equipped with such experience and specific knowledge in the area can not provide.(觉得TS后面还可以解释一下,然后再来一个especially会不会比较好,长句和词汇都很棒)

College and university should encourage, rather than require, faculty to involve in professional work and give their attentions to the tradeoff between teaching, research and professional work.(觉得全文是不是还应该加一段,可以是关于提高教育和知道水平的其他的方法,呵呵,当然只是在下拙见)
看了lz的文章感觉自己真的是菜鸟,要好好学习啊~
