Is education designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student truly effective, as the arguer asserts? I agree with the arguer's point of view, but it is impossible in practice that education completely meets the individual needs and interests of each student. We have to give students some options in their courses and teachers.
Student-centered education can most effectively make students involve in the learning process and active in gaining knowledge, improving their humanity and life skills. Why are so many students bored with their courses, sleepy when teachers give a lecture, even absent in their classes? Because they are lack of interests in their received education and thinks that teachers enforce them to memory some meaningless facts, equations and conceptions. The passive studying state of students make them learn little and education ineffective. Effective education should be designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student and student-centered education can place students in active state and the learning process, arouse their curiosity and interests in their lessons and motivate them to study in the fields they favor.
Compared with student-centered education, the traditional education place teachers in central position, emprise exam results and ignore the individual needs and interests of each students, which may cause students' discontent, even frustrating some students with prominent gift and individuality. Take Einstein for example. In his childhood, his exam score was terribly low and his teacher believed he would be a useless man to society in future, ignoring his intense interests in physics and individuality excel in meditation which served well to his great success in physics. Receiving traditional education, the students has to be consistent of their teacher’s points of view and seek for a high exam grade, which make them depend on current answers and lose creativity.
However, education can not completely meet the individual needs and interests of each student considering available educational resources such as teachers, teaching facilities are limited. It is feasible that schools provide optional courses and teachers to students who can make a choice according to their individual needs and interests.
In conclude, it is the purpose of education to help students become autonomous, creative, inquiring them who have the will and intelligence to create their own destiny. So truly effective education should meet the individual needs and interests of each students, place students in active state and arouse their potential by giving student optional courses and teachers.
