Should nonmainstream areas of inquiry play a important part in society by satisfying human needs that are not addressed by mainstream science? The speaker claims so. I fundamentally tend to agree with the assertion. However, in my view, mainstream science can much more be placed on satisfying human needs an dealing with different kinds of human question.

It is true that the assertion is clearly accurate in that such nonmainstream areas, such as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuit can give human being a satisfaction. For supporting example, one needs look no further than astrology. For one thing, the different kinds of problem can not be explained by mainstream science, such as mysterious phenomena-how the big earthquake happens, especially in the ancient for the development of science and technology is so low that human beings call for a kind of explanation for the phenomena. For another, in nowadays, although the science and technology is so advanced, some things such as what is my future life and how we live a good in psychological .Thus, in some conditions, the nonmainstream areas can help human beings do with some things.

Under some circumstance, nevertheless, it can be counterproductive to overemphasizing the nonmainstream areas in that they are not scientific. Common sense teaches us, for instance, that it is a mistake to attempt to explain all mysterious phenomena. It is not correct that earthquake is viewed as the forecast of disaster by the nonmainstream areas theory and is explained by the knowledge that earthquake is resulted from earth varying. If human being is instilled by the nonmainstream, then we will not think the knowledge so that the human being’s civilization is not advancing and the nonmainstreams areas will consist instill us many false information.

Moreover, it is widely acknowledged, in some extend, that mainstream science is increasingly important for human being to do with some questions which human being is urge to overcome, such as environment pollution, unemployment, population cries. Consider, for example, the environment pollution is not done with by the nonmainstream areas, but can be handled by mainstream science for the reason  we can know how to make use of scientific knowledge to judge which area is polluted and where is not, so that we can adopt some different methods. Hence, we can not emphasize the importance of mainstream science too much.


In sum, there is little doubt that mainstream science can play a much more vital role in society for human being by satisfying human needs than nonmainstream areas. However, nonmainstream areas play a part in give satisfaction to human being. Accordingly, on balance the speaker's assertion is fundamentally correct.
