People will finally step into the society to find jobs when they graduate from colleges, high schools or universities. At this point, some people may argue schools should spend more time teaching about preparing for future career and jobs which help them finding a good job while others maintain that schools, colleges and universities should spend more time in teaching about general subjects. From my personal angle alone, I agree with the latter view.
First, general subjects, such as Chemistry, Biology, are crucial to your career or job in the future. Take doctors for example, normal college students need to apply for another four years studying in the medicine college to become a doctor. Their former knowledge is based on the general disciplines they learn in the university. That means normal subjects and professional learning qualified you to be a doctor, they help you know what role the pellet or capsule plays in human body, when it absorbed by the blood and when it played its function. This basic knowledge is of importance to be a doctor, not to speak of other career and jobs. Thus, spend less time teaching the basic discipline is unwise.
Second, the general subjects will provide another road for you when you graduate. Nowadays, the technology and science pervade every aspects of our society; therefore, multidiscipline’s combination is significant if you want to achieve something. As we know, there are people who make contribution to the discipline or to the study of different subjects won the Nobel Prize. So, the general disciplines will help you prepare for the career, while the career teaching always are not so valuable as the basic knowledge your study in the college.
Based on the reasons I mentioned above, high schools, colleges and universities should put emphasis on general subjects learning instead of put more time teaching students about preparing for future career and jobs. When students learn the knowledge well, opportunities already hail to them.
