We are now living in a society that changes so rapidly, and it's almost hard for us to anticipate what would happen in the next minute. The whole world has witnessed so many significant incidents in the early age of this century, such as the horrible 9.11 incident, the global economic turmoil, and the inauguration of the first Africa-American president--Barack Obama. The aforesaid incidents all had an enormous impact upon the larger society's order. Thus we may come to such questions from our bottom of heart--does the world have already changed the game rules? Have the old empirical solutions expired in our modern life? My answer to those questions is simply a "no".

I don't deny that many remarkable changes have taken place in our present life, generating much more new and complex problems for us, where the rule of thumbs may not still work. For instance, as the graduates in my hometown have largely increased in recent years, the old notion of "Going to college amount to a bright future" is no longer prevailing. If somebody doesn't try his best during his campus life, he is highly likely to be kicked off from the drastic human resource market. Thus many young people have to struggle for a higher diploma to ensure their working opportunity, while some of them even chose to study abroad. For another example, the power of media has amazing boosted. There are many teenage artists who haven't gone through any difficult time become super stars due to the ubiquitous propaganda of all kinds of media, which is totally hard to imagine in old ages.

However, a careful reflection reveals that even there have been so many great changes in our modern life; the fundaments of our society have never changed. In political realm, it is still the candidate who represents the behalf of the massive that would win the election. As for the economy, the relationship between sellers and buyers still plays an essential role in deciding the price of every kind of commodities. Thus, we shouldn't feel anxious about the changes in our life but to regard them as symbols of the development of our society.

As we have our retrospect to the past, we should never simply copy our old notions in solving problem but try to find out the internal relationship between every cause and result, and by that way can we learn the method to find the solution we may encounter in the future. It generally unwise and unfair to complain about it is the fast developing society that hampers our ability of guiding ourselves. In every stage of society, it is always the ones who are capable of learning from the past and the others who would laugh the last laugh, yet those who are unable to learn end in failure.

In the final analysis, the contention of the past is no longer able to guide our life in present is basically unwarranted. Anyone who holds the similar idea turns out to be incapable in absorbing the past experiences, but only tried to duplicate the same solution in the old way, which is doomed to fail. Thus, knowing how to learn from the past, but not copying the past, is the key to success in our present life.
