Dear International Applicants,
Due to the GRE Board's cancellation of computer-based testing in China, S.
Korea, and Taiwan, we will now require the new GRE test. You can take this
test in November 2002. There is also a March 2003 date, but that test is
too late to apply for Fall 2003, and we don't accept international students
for the Spring semester. You may begin your application, but it will not
be officially considered until we receive the new GRE scores. This test is
required for ALL of you for applying to any US school. Without this new
test date, you cannot be considered for admission. Thank you for your
patience and understanding.

昨天我给美国工科前50名的学校发信，询问他们如何看待机考成绩和笔考成绩。
一小半的地址可能有错，不过今天我也收到十几封有效来信。这十几封中，一些是自动
回的申请信息，令一些信很重要，参加机考的同学请注意：就算是申请2004年秋季入学
，机考成绩对大多数学校来说是有效的，只有Washiongton State University说2004年
应该有足够时间参加笔考。而且，各学校对GRE成绩的要求真的很低：一般是V500以上，
A700以上，Q750以上。然而，他们说GPA是很重要的，几乎所有学校都是这么要求的：G
PA（US 4.0 Scale） MS 3.0 or more, PHD 3.5 or more.
我的分析是：绝对不必担心机考成绩于笔考成绩之间的差异，美国学校对GRE看的不重。
但GPA实在很重要，3.5，什么概念呀？绝对不是我们清华的学分记85的概念，而是基本
没有70来分的科目，一半成绩是80多分，一半成绩是90来分！

univ. of minnesota twin cities 的回信。要CBT GRE！！！
If you have already taken the GRE, we will not require you to take it again in the paper form. However, if you still need to schedule the GRE, we highly recommend taking the paper test in November if at all possible. If you submit a computer-based score, the faculty will place more importance on your letters of recommendation, transcripts, etc. than the GRE.

接受的有DC-DAVIS MSU UC-BEREKELY。GERORGIA TECH
不接受的有：FLORIDA（态度很强硬）

We will accept both the CBT or the PBT for the GRE.

FLORIDA：
I was just told that we are only accepting the paper-based GRE score.

UC-DAVIS
The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at UC Davis requires
the general GRE test. If you have already taken it via computer in China
we will accept your scores. If not, you will have to take the GRE as
given by ETS in your country. The GRE is a requirement of all graduate
applicants and cannot be waived, but must accompany your graduate
application.

就我的回信来看，绝大多数的学校应该还是接受CBT GRE的。

hopkins的neuroscience接受机考成绩，而其他专业不清楚。
非常搞笑，我问该专业一教授，他居然不知pbt/cbt为何物( I have no idea what these tests are)？他要我去问小秘。
小秘回答很简单we will accept either gre.   
         faint,我才知道每个系都有录取办公室，而且政策会不同。

有没有谁问过耶鲁神经生物专业的情况？有的话，烦请回帖。

Actually, I didn't say that we had made the decision to not accept the computer-based GRE scores.  That was a possible outcome, but our faculty committee has not yet met to make a decision.  Nor have we learned of the plans of other comparable institutions.
That scandal about cheating on computer based GRE exams is going to have an effect on many innocent students.  But the cheating really happened and it was quite widespread - and that is something that we in the US cannot overlook.

不知道大家前一阵为什么都说Minnesota不要机考成绩？这大概是各院的不同规定，不涉及其他系，这是Minnesota回信的一部分。后面的很好玩，我都没要材料，他们还表示要寄材料给我。
