Persuaded by the superficial phenomenon, some would throw at us such an unreasoned and irresponsible statement: those non-mainstream areas amount to something vital for current society by satisfying human needs that are not addressed by mainstream science. However, in my view it is still the mainstream science responding to our needs and dramatically improving our life plays a  crucial role in current society.

Admittedly, having survived for hundreds of years, those non-mainstream areas still have a considerable market among masses. For my part, there are several reasons which account for the popularity of the non-mainstream areas. In the first place, curiosity, with which human born, drives people seek to know their future or destiny, no matter it is good or bad. Take astrology for example, craving for forecasting their own future life and destiny, our ancestors,  create astrology,a discipline telling people's destiny by the movement of astronomical bodies, particularly the sun, moon, planets and stars. Secondly, mostly originated from lack of education and poverty, ignorance is another major reason that is responsible for the popularity of those non-mainstream areas. While ignorant, people are unable to explain and analyze myriads of mysterious nature phenomena by science and other intellectual areas. As a consequence, they resort to those non-mainstream areas, which are comparatively easy to understand. Finally, rapider and rapider pace of current life and continuously aggravating competition weaken and even undermine people's healthy psychology. Therefore, some tend to those non-mainstream areas, which, to some extent, work as a way of producing psychological solace and igniting a better-living hope for them.

However, further reflections tell us that mainstream science has a crucial effect on the way we live, largely through technology—the use of scientific knowledge for practical purposes. On the one hand, the great benefits brought by science and technology are increasing material well-being, which make our life more convenient and comfortable. For instance, the invention of automobile, which made use of advances in physics and engineering, totally changed our current life and our society by dramatically enhance the efficiency of traffic .Besides, modern industrial life, impelled by mainstream science, also provides a constantly changing flood of new goods and services, giving us more choices. On the other hand, the rapid development of science and technology also guarantee us a healthier life with an improved healthy care. Refrigerator, for example, owes its existence to the breakthroughs of cryogenics and thermodynamics, which is now widely used to store perishable foods, furs, pharmaceuticals, or other items by keeping a lowering temperature and maintaining it in a given space. Under the low temperature, the refrigerator checks both bacterial growth and adverse chemical reactions that occur in the normal atmosphere, which makes stuffs stored in it almost germfree and safe to our health.

In sum, the non-mainstream areas in some respects may have some impact on our life, nevertheless, it is still the mainstream science, but not those non-mainstream areas, predominate our society

我觉得就题目理解上我跟你不太一样。题目并没有说非主流学科是主导地位，只是说它作为主流学科的一个补充在社会上有重要的地位。第二段分析非主流学科为什么迎合人们需求的那一部分还是比较展开的。但是第三段，我并不觉得特别有必要把让生活舒适方便和健康分开来说。你可以说现代手段可以让人们精神上得到更大的满足，比如电影啊，网络聊天学习啊什么的。其实这样写你可以说，承认非主流学科能满足人们从主流学科不能得到的满足，然后接着说，随着科技的发展，人们会越来越少地需要依靠非主流学科来满足这些要求，主流学科可以逐步完善以至解决所有人类的需要。比如说像无知啊，心理健康什么的都可以解决。

其实这样写你可以说，承认非主流学科能满足人们从主流学科不能得到的满足，然后接着说，随着科技的发展，人们会越来越少地需要依靠非主流学科来满足这些要求，主流学科可以逐步完善以至解决所有人类的需要。比如说像无知啊，心理健康什么的都可以解决。（恩，我觉得这个应该是另一种角度吧）
