I agree insofar as television plays an important role in our daily lives indeed. However, in most cases, reading books is still a better way of obtaining knowledge so that it can not be replaced by television easily.

Admittedly, television has been more and more popular since its birth. It could offer the latest news and entertain the multitude through the vivid images and pleasant
sounds. For instance, the news and finance program could satisfy the common and the professional needs, ranged from daily lives to international events. And the Discovery program, produced by devoted experts and brave explorers, presents lots of splendid views which common people have no chance to see. Also you may be immersed in some TV play series with extraordinary plots. In fact, all of those benefits come from the television's advantage -- timely, vividly and amusement, which do good to our lives and study.

However, television programs are profit-based mainly rather than educational so that books is still irreplaceable in terms of learning. For one thing, watching TV  can not provoke abstract thinking and systematic study to knowledge, especially in a specialized field . As a saying goes, book is the sea of knowledge. Books contain the collective human's experience and wisdom. Without reading, digesting and rumination of papers, speech and novels , we can' understand the scientists' theory well  and realize the author's real feelings in most cases. For instance, it's ridiculous to count on someone to have a better understanding of Einstein's relativity just by watching some TV programs.

Secondly, reading books is the best way to improve our communication skills such as reading and writing. You could raise your reading speed and learn the ingenious conception and various writing styles through reading books.  On the contrary, you will not become a good reader through television. In the same way, you would not expect to receive a higher score in GRE's AW if you just watch TV rather than turn to books for help.

Last but not least, you can read a book at any time and anywhere once you get it, whereas the televison program could only be seen at certain time. It's common for people to read in the park or on the travel, but it's not the case for television. Thus, reading books offers more convenience for our study.

In sum, although television brings us lots of fun and knowledge, reading books is still the best way of learning so that we must pay much attention to it.
