What's sixteen feet tall and 9,550 years old? It’s the world's oldest tree. The worn（听成了warn ）and weathered spruce grows in Sweden's windswept tundra. But, until recently, well, recent to the tree at least, it barely resembled a tree at all. Before this last warm century, the spruce grew more like a shrub to survive the harsh conditions of its cold landscape. But rising temperatures convinced the tree to give up its shabby lifestyle, shed the majority of its needles and go with the single-trunk look.

Researchers from Sweden's Umea University found the tree growing amid the remains of four generations of spruce dating from 375 to well over 9,000 years old. Spruce trees can clone themselves by sending new trees up through the ground from established roots. When the scientists tested the current tree, they found it was genetically identical with the remains of all four previous generations. Researchers are excited about having a 10,000-year-long case study of how past climate changes affected plant growth and productivity. It’s a finding sure to spruce up all of botany.

A friend’s four year old daughter rencent(ly) complained to (me about) how badly the mosquito by each(bite itched).She was about to burst (in)to tears.The fact that the(an) uncomfortable each(itched sensation) contrive(can drive) many of us to distraction let(led) many scientists to believe that nervous system deal(s) with each(itch) much (as it) does pains.Other(s) spent years looking ,unsuccessful(ly),for (neurons that tell us to) scratch ranther than we just hurt.Now according to a study in the august 7th Issue of the Journal science researchers say ther(have) finally found specific each and(itch neurons in) mice.They locate(d) down(them in) the mose(spinal cord) by following a previous research that showed that some mise respend each(to inchy) stimulus(stimuli more than) others when scientists knocked (out the itch neurons),the mice no longer had (the) urge to scratch in response to know(n) stimulus.But they could (still) sensing(sense and) avoid pain showing that each(inch) and pain are processed independently.The researchers hope these findings could eventually lead (to) better treatments for chronic (itch) by (targeting the specific) biochemical (pathway involved).As for the four-year-old?She forgot (about her itchy bug bite) as soon as (lunch arrived).

现在发现小时候学的音标有多大用处了！很多单词，比如nocturnal,avian根本没听过，但是凭着发音就能拼写出来！

For the last 5 years, researchers have been analyzing bird DNA. That effort has now completely altered our understanding of which bird species really do fluke(-->flock 晕啊这个都错了) together in evolutionary history. The overall project is called A Sibling(-->Assembling) the Tree of Life, with the avian part known as Early Bird. The new relationships appear in the June 27th Issue of the Journal Science.

It turns out much of what we thought about how bird species were related to one another were just wrong. For example, scientists thought that birds that live on water like Flamingos EVOLVED from a seperate waterbird group. But Flamingoes talked(-->took) to the water after SPECIATING. And it might make sense to think that birds with similar lifestyles like faukens(-->falcons) and eagles are(-->were) related. Nope. Instead, faukens(-->falcons) are more closely related to parrots.

Researchers found other surprising relatives. Colorful hummingbirds that fled(-->flit) about when the sun shines descended from DRAB, nocturnal night jars. Get ready for LATIN species names to change, and textbooks and field GUIDES will have to be revised to correct former assumptions about relationships. The 82 million American bird-watchers will certainly go COOKOO.
