等了一个学期,终于等到了自己觉得比较对胃口的课。美国的规划对于理论和数据要求很严格,反倒对于技术方面强调的不多,因为我是urban design concentration的,所以个人对和技术以及实例相关的东西更感兴趣一些。下面介绍一门PennDesign规划系的urban design concentration学生必修的一门课,CPLN 708-Urban Design Methods

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
0 x* P7 M3 j( I- `& KThis course is designed as an introductory survey of urban design
( x$ u, ~/ x5 f7 \" wmethods associated with both practice and research. The course begins with a series of discussions

and emerging roles, and design communication.

/ m _. B% B" }7 ]+ [The first half of the course concerns issues and methods in urban design practice, situated either in
4 F$ Y9 g0 A( I$ S2 q3 b, }# }7 ithe private or public sector – including both direct and indirect design. Topics to be covered in this
% z8 ]3 w" p; r4 h7 `( J% Kportion of the course include: design processes, land use controls and development standards, code) {6 A+ Q5 o( g; |9 Z6 q
writing, regulation, design guidelines, non-computational representation techniques, design

* t' K4 D: x4 _; gThe second half of the semester then focuses on urban design research methods in both professional
4 U- O9 E% x" m0 N; c! U; zand academic settings. We will review common models of research design within the field and the
$ G8 ^% t% P- @# \" f6 |5 zincreasing use of social science methods in response to external pressures. Students will be exposed
6 d' w) y& r- p0 L( x( |( `to various research methods used to understand and analyze urban form, social behavior and0 m, N% @ f6 b! {, y# f
environmental psychology. We will also examine various methods in built environment analysis,

and built into course exercises.

This course is a spatial method elective core requirement for the City Planning masters degree and

recommended for students who intend to practice either direct or indirect urban design, as well as

planning. No prerequisite courses are required for entry into the course, although some familiarity% ]! @8 X! ]; ?& g3 d! n
