等了一个学期,终于等到了自己觉得比较对胃口的课。美国的规划对于理论和数据要求很严格,反倒对于技术方面强调的不多,因为我是urban design concentration的,所以个人对和技术以及实例相关的东西更感兴趣一些。下面介绍一门PennDesign规划系的urban design concentration学生必修的一门课,CPLN 708-Urban Design Methods

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
" F# B2 x2 U& u F8 D2 D* aThis course is designed as an introductory survey of urban design
* a8 E! V5 i) P. _3 xmethods associated with both practice and research. The course begins with a series of discussions2 K# Q# Q( r8 C/ P, c* `
on the field of urban design, attempts at definition, history of the field, basic epistemology, traditional
M$ q. `8 t& |- u! d- ^and emerging roles, and design communication.

The first half of the course concerns issues and methods in urban design practice, situated either in
. j" D9 M/ b+ I, xthe private or public sector – including both direct and indirect design. Topics to be covered in this/ I% k- \( z- w6 q' _
portion of the course include: design processes, land use controls and development standards, code4 f' h; P2 T& E: I! @4 x5 `0 O
writing, regulation, design guidelines, non-computational representation techniques, design, U/ Z8 J4 ]4 ?) T) W( s- q8 L9 c

The second half of the semester then focuses on urban design research methods in both professional
3 P2 m2 v* p) I2 V1 S4 ^% Fand academic settings. We will review common models of research design within the field and the% l" w9 t2 @* m1 n) Z
increasing use of social science methods in response to external pressures. Students will be exposed( u9 o: t' j2 B9 ~* L% S- {
to various research methods used to understand and analyze urban form, social behavior and$ l9 H, @5 _, Y- h @2 {
environmental psychology. We will also examine various methods in built environment analysis,

recommended for students who intend to practice either direct or indirect urban design, as well as. \% [9 |) e: U4 f! E
others who plan on working in positions dealing with project development, design, or long term+ k; v: N, X* e2 ^# f
planning. No prerequisite courses are required for entry into the course, although some familiarity
# y/ q3 c' r! A6 X' z6 s& awith the Adobe Creative Suite is required.
