Postdoc Position 1:

Postdoctoral Position in Non-viral Gene Delivery for
Neural Tissue Engineering Research @ Nanyang Technological University, Singapore
School of Chemical & Biomedical Engineering
Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine
http://www.ntu.edu.sg/home/sychew

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Sing Yian CHEW at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, to a highly motivated candidate who has a passion for non-viral gene delivery and tissue engineering research. This is a joint project with Dr. Kam W. Leong at Columbia University. Dr. Leong and Dr. Chew will jointly advise the candidate.

The focus of this joint project is to design tissue scaffolds for sustained non-viral gene silencing and to impart topographical signals to direct cell fate and tissue regeneration. We are seeking an individual who is strong in molecular biology and interested in designing novel biodegradable, biocompatible tissue scaffolds with controlled non-viral gene delivery capabilities to direct cell fate and soft tissue regeneration, characterizing scaffold-cell/tissue interactions.

This position offers a unique opportunity to apply molecular biology and controlled gene delivery skills to neural tissue engineering and stem cell engineering, through strong collaborative efforts with overseas academic institute.

The candidate will be given opportunities and is expected to design and execute experiments independently. He/she is also expected to interpret experimental results, and author papers in high-quality journals in areas that are related to the research. The candidate should demonstrate excellent communication skills and should have a strong passion and commitment to science. He/she will also work closely with the Principal Investigators to help supervise and train students and junior lab members and to ensure smooth functioning of an active research program. The candidate will have the opportunity to explore his/her own interests across functions.

Requirements:
•        PhD level scientist with strong molecular biology background in gene delivery and tissue engineering and no more than 2 years of postdoc experience.
•        Expertise in molecular biology, gene delivery, evaluation of cellular response/interactions/functionality with scaffolds using western blotting, immunostaining, quantitative RT-PCR, fluorescent microscopy (confocal) imaging, functional assays.
•        Strong ability to communicate effectively orally and in written form, and experienced in writing manuscripts.
•        Strong ability to perform self-directed work.
•        Strong organizational skills and proactive personality with outstanding motivation, creativity, critical and analytical thinking skills, strong scientific commitment and ability to work as a team.
Starting salaries will depend on candidate’s qualification and experience. Candidates are expected to start Jan 2017. Review of applicants will continue until positions are filled. Applicants should submit a cover letter indicating their area of interest and how they intend to participate and contribute to the research, complete curriculum vitae and addresses of three references in a single PDF document to Dr. Sing Yian CHEW: sychew@ntu.edu.sg

Postdoc Position 2:

Postdoctoral Position in Scaffold Design for Drug/gene Delivery for Neural Tissue Engineering Research
@ Nanyang Technological University, Singapore
School of Chemical & Biomedical Engineering
Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine
http://www.ntu.edu.sg/home/sychew

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Sing Yian CHEW at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, to a highly motivated candidate who has a passion for tissue engineering, scaffold design for drug/gene delivery research. This is a joint project between Dr. Kam W Leong’s lab at Columbia University and Dr. Ahmet Hoke’s lab at Johns Hopkins University.

The focus of this joint project is to design tissue scaffolds to impart topographical signals and sustained drug/gene delivery to direct cell fate and tissue regeneration. We are seeking an individual who is interested in designing and characterizing novel biodegradable, biocompatible tissue scaffolds with controlled drug/ gene delivery capabilities to direct cell fate and soft tissue regeneration, characterizing scaffold-cell/tissue interactions, engineering factors that control the rate and extent of drug/gene delivery and scaffold degradation.

This position offers a unique opportunity to apply tissue scaffold engineering and controlled drug/gene delivery skills to neural tissue engineering and stem cell engineering, through strong collaborative efforts with multiple overseas academic institutes.

We are seeking an individual who is interested in scaffold design, fabrication and characterization; controlled drug/gene delivery design and characterization; evaluation of cellular response/interactions/functionality with scaffolds and drug/gene delivery. Works related will be part of several ongoing projects in neural tissue engineering and host-implant integration.

The candidate will be given opportunities and is expected to design and execute experiments independently. He/she is also expected to interpret experimental results, and author papers in high-quality journals in areas that are related to the research. The candidate should demonstrate excellent communication skills and should have a strong passion and commitment to science.
