------正文------
The speaker claims that we can usually learn much more from people whose views we share than people whose views contradict our own, for the reason that disagreement can cause pressure and impede learning. In my opinion, we can learn from both kinds of the people mentioned above, and both ways through which we learn have their own restriction.
To begin with, we can learn from people views we share, who can promote our posotivity and efficiency of study. Most of us prefer to study with these people, because of similar pressure perspectives, values and so on. We can feel that we are identified by others, which leads to a sense of delight. Then our positivity is aroused and we can be more efficient. In addition, the same views do not mean the same scopes of knowledge. In most situations, people who share a same view have diverse knowledge, since few of them have undergone completely the same experience. Thus, we can learn form each other. Because of the upper positivity and efficiency, the process of learning can be more rapid, and we can get more information during the same time. therefore, i is no doubt that we can learn much form people who share views with us.
However, the way to learn from people of the same views has its restriction, which can inhabit learning. The chief reason is that it is not easy for us to find out our disadvantages, which impede our learning. For example, Aristotle and his students not only shared the similar views, but also were authorities in that time. They seldom absorbed different opinion from their opponents. It was the experiment done by Galileo made them realize that some perspectives in their thinking to perceive the world was not correct. In our daily study, we can also find that people of the same views often make similar mistakes. Thus, what we learn only form people whose views we share is far away from that we need.
On the other hand, we can also learn much from people whose views contradict our own for two chief reasons. One is that we can realize what are inhibiting our learning, which is conductive to our further study. For example, a student whose way to learn is to study theory first, and then memory facts. Another's way is contrast. By knowing the latter's way to learn, the former can find that the way that studying and recollecting at the same time is best for him or her. Another reason is that people with contrast views often hold knowledge that is different from our own. Since everything in the world has many aspects which we need to know, learning from these people is conductive for us to perceive a more integral world. So we can see a more integral picture, and we can also have a more subjective perspective towards the world. All of these is good for our further study.
Admittedly, it is true that stress caused by disagreement can inhabit learning. This is primary because of diverse values, assumptions, religions and so on. For instance, the debate about how human come into being between a student who has learned the EVOLUTION written by Darwin and a Muslim will never have a result. A man who thinks that abortion is inculpable will never have a result by debating with a religious disciple who considers that abortion is murder. All such debates as mentioned above are meaningless. It is nothing but wasting our time.
In conclusion, we can learn from both of the two kinds of people. The two ways are important. The best way is to combining them so that we can access information easier. |
