176"The function of science is to reassure; the purpose of art is to upset. Therein lies the value of each."
提纲：1 科学使人reassure
2 科学同样带来疑惑和问题。
3 对艺术不是很懂，但是艺术在生活中既 upset又 soothe
4 我认为，科学和艺术的功能和目的无非是为了人的利益。它们都是人类生存和享受文明所必不可少的。而他们如何为人类服务在于人类的理智把握。

The view above seems to seperate science and art in their values. But neither is only to reassure or upset. And their value should not be assembled separately.

Take science for example. Science do reassure us in revealing many myths such as the cause of thunder, lightening, typhoon. Also many convenience and benefits has science brought us. In knowing microorganisms, we can get antibiosis which is helpful in curing diseases, brew beer and sour milk in a more sophisticated and scientific way that products can be more qualified. The development in cytology, genetic engineering makes curing the once incurable diseases possible. And thanks to the accelerated development in IT, we can communicate with each other in a more convenient and open way.

But science is reassuring us while upsetting. Clone is quite promising in solving the problem of humane organism deficiency. But clone the humane as a whole caused the dissents in ethnics. What will the cloned humane babies' identity be? What kind of environment shall those cloned babies face? And, people develop science for the benefits and convenience of themselves, and sometimes they do not think about the consequences while only care about the wealth and benefits at that time. Another example in science upsetting us is pollution. Industrial development has brought us much wealth, but has set a big problem in front of us, that is pollution. Love Canal, a small town in upstate New York, was destroyed by chemical waste that was once legally dumped. People settled there were not told of the toxicity of the chemical waste at first, and the tragedy occurred.

While, as to art, though I know little of art, art is indispensable in my life. When I am tired, discouraged or happy, music is quite the essential one. Music is to soothe me when I am tired and discouraged, and to agitate me more when I am happy. Another kind of art in my life is literature, which gives me introspection of myself and the nature of the life. Art, as a whole to me, is a kind of beauty and reflect the state of mind in its time, solve the problem of what we are and what we will be and is to serve humane for their spirits.

Finally, as far as I am concerned, it is not quite exact to say "science is to reassure, art is to upset" and vice versa. Science deals with material things, serving to solve practical problems while begetting other new ones; art is for spiritual enjoyment and introspection, which is untouchable. But both science and art are serving for the benefits of humane beings and they are indispensable for the humane development. And it is up to humane for the function and use of them.

前面思路很好，但后面两段似乎就有点乱。后面两段还不如一段写art reassure, 一段写art upset. 不用写什么as for as i am concerned, 因为整篇文章都是你的观点啊

谢谢“不怕开水烫的猪”，我参照你的修改意见该过后又发了一个新帖，在这再贴一个还有一个关于But science is reassuring us while upsetting.顺序的问题。我想表达的意思是：科学在“reassure us" 的同时还“upset”。你看我的顺序这样对吗？

People develop science for the benefits and conveniences of themselves, and sometimes they do not think about the consequences while only care about the wealth and benefits at that time. Art also agitate us and cause us to think, introspect, and excite. Take literature for example, we fluctuate with persons’ experiences in novels while learn to communicate, introspect the action of our own. Art, as a whole, is a kind of beauty and reflect the state of mind in its time, solve the problem of what we are and what we will be and is to serve human for their spirits.
