Issue 130
How children are socialized today determines the destiny of our society. But we have not yet learned that how to raise children who can help bring about a better society.

Children, the most adaptive creature with the most potential and unstable energy, are destined to take the responsibility of the human beings, regardless of whether we like it or not. However, as infinitive as they may be, they can never determine the future. Future is uncertain and beyond human’s control, but, in some sense, human beings can still promote their society by their ability.

As a common knowledge, God is all mighty, but men are not God. Proudly men show their knowledge and ability, but they are constantly being proved wrong. The Industrial Revolution had long been regarded as a total victory toward nature until global warming interrupted the sweet dream. Besides men’s energy, nature’s force cannot be ignored. To some extent, the world’s development is determined by the interaction of human beings and environment rather than only depends on human behavior. In the interplay, human beings tried to control the objectives of nature using their subjective forces, but were incessantly beat down when they thought they are close to accomplish it.

In the light of this concept, a “better” society where men conquer the nature can never be achieved. Instead, the harmony between men and nature and the accordance between individuals are the criteria for “better”. Therefore the destiny of the socialization of children is to make these concepts embedded in their minds and equipped them with the abilities to make it. Once this object is achieved, human will surely be pushed forward. Since the greatest losses in history were caused by the conflicts between humans and the revenge of nature.

By this standard, some of the critiques are not improper. Learning from the history of modern society where education gradually became a determinative influence on the society, there is few generations of children which are praised and high-evaluated. The adults tend to consider their descendents as lazy, epicurean creatures who do not have the least respects to their sacred conventions. The phenomenon, especially obvious in developed countries, is often called “the generation gap”. As a common sense, it is better to not regard it as a matter of true or false, but to consider it as the irrational conflicts of two generations which is mainly caused by the rapid changing society. In the light of this concept, some reprehension of the socialization of children is just because of the misunderstanding of children.

In general, the socialization of children is doing better and better. Nowadays, ideas of environmental protections grow popular and widely accepted. Compulsory educations aiming at providing the basic ability to live in accordance with others are provided in most countries. Besides those facts, the most significant evidence is that the speed of the world’s development is accelerating, except for those rarely happened ebbs.

In conclusion, by the measurement of human ability, the aim is to teach the young how to live harmony with the outside world. And, by this standard, the teaching of the young is successful.
