Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Teachers should assign homework to their students every day.
In recent years, there are heated discussion about whether teachers should assign homework to their students every day. Some people maintain this statement, arguing it is not only the responsibility of a teacher, but also benefits students a lot. Nevertheless, I definitely oppose to the opinion, reasons are as following.
First of all, no one could deny that a qualified teacher should not only focus on basic knowledge on a specific subject, but also render students get fully educated, which is especially necessary for primary students or middle school students. Since young students have incredible potentials on learning and they are always curious about the nature and society. Thus it is high time for teachers to expand their horizon, they can encourage students to work on extensive readings, to do some field work and observation, also they can be inspired to interest on art or music. However, if every teacher assigns homework every day, there is unavoidable a great bulk of burden for young students. The heavy burden has nothing to do with promoting young students' academy ability, what's worse, it probably make students lose enthusiasm on school study any more. Thus, it is not a good solution for teachers assign homework to students every day.
Furthermore, teachers also should not arrange assignments for college students every day, which is not only necessary but also impractical. As we all know, college students are grown-up, they are mature enough to decide what themselves ought to do and what they prefer to devote on. Under such circumstance, teachers are much more like advisors, whose major obligations are assisting students when they encounter difficulties besides providing knowledge and methods. Only in this way, can college students become independent and acquire courage for the future unpredictable challenges. If teachers assign homework every day, both students and themselves will consider bore and tire.
However, for high school students, teachers can arrange assignments for students regularly. From my perspective, high school period is a crucial period for students, because every signal students have to pass the University Entrance Examination, which filled with fierce competition. Therefore, it is beneficial for students get certain amount homework from their teachers, who are much more experienced about the examination. But it does not mean every teacher should distribute homework for their students every day, which will be too much to provide high-pressure students available rest.
To sum up, whatever conditions vary, students cannot be given homework by teachers every day. |
