我的两次F1签证，都会首先被问到，为什么要去学这个项目。可见这个留学必要性多么重要。我看了精华帖子，想了很久，总结了一下，但是比较多，但是都是我的真实想法。请老师们指正。多谢。、
This is a question must be asked by the visa officer. Why do you want to study this program. My program is Language, Literature, and Sociocultural Studies with concentration on TESOL( teach English to other language speakers), The following is my answer.

1, American education can benefit my English teaching in China.
I have been teaching English in a vocational school for 10 years. I have found the traditional English teaching can’t meet the needs of the students. I am also facing the limitation of my own English level and teaching skills. So I need to refresh my knowledge and skills in an English-speaking country, that is the best solution.

My experience of traveling in the U.S and Canada has already proved this. For example, when I explain the word “Priority”, I would tell my students what is the priority seats in America and Canada. When mentioned the word “authority”，I would tell my students there are a lot “authorized parking only” in America and tell them what does this mean. I also attended lectures at Columbia University in 2017, which really gave me many provoking ideas. The more relaxed, the more informal but the more effective teaching methods provided to the students.

There are also many cultural tips in our textbooks, because I have experienced some of them, so I can explain them more vividly and thoroughly than others. My students can also benefit a lot from the global perspective I came back with, such as some American values. For example, in America, the person walking in front of you will hold the door for in case of being hit by the door. Etc.

I am a very observant teacher and all of above had made my lectures more impressive, attractive and myself be admired by my students. It’s a good feeling, I really want to be a prestigious teacher by study in xxx. It can make my life more colorful, providing more choices in my career. I can be an interpreter, translator, Teach TOEFL and GRE, or work in a Study Abroad Agency. It is undoubtedly the most worthy investment in my future.

I also want to make a reform in my English teaching, this is our English textbook,(show the visa officer my textbook) it is commonly used in many vocational colleges here in China, it has nothing to do with their majors. I want to make English serve the students’ majors. I hope to train my students proficient enough in English to search and obtain their vocational knowledge from abroad. I need to find my own teaching resources and methods or compile relevant textbooks. But limited to my own level and vision, it’s difficult to achieve, I hope to improve myself in xxx.

2, American education will help me with my professional title promotion.
I met an English teacher in xxx University, when I participated in a national college English teaching contest. Jini, who won the first place, he graduated from Cambridge University. We talked a lot because we both like the piano. He was promoted to an associate professor at 26 and professor last year. He told me how important it was for an English teacher to study abroad. What incredible experience it was and how much it had changed his way of thinking and perceiving the world. And how important it is to our professional title promotion in Chinese educational system.

3, Language, literature, and Sociocultural Study with specialty in TESOL. this is the program in xxx. I want to do some research on social justice, gender, sexual orientation, and disabled students. These problems do exist in china education. But there are rare researches conducted on them. This program can provide me more skills and teaches me some of the research methodologies to carry out my research in China. I hope I will have the opportunity to establish relationships with the scholars in the area of xxx, even to collaborate in the future in this area of study.
