138"Only through mistakes can there be discovery or progress."

The speaker contends that discovery and progress are made only through mistakes. While the speaker might overlook some scientific fruitions that were actually achieved in coincidence. On balance, however, I agree with the speakers for the following three reasons.

To begin with, the contention accords with our everyday experience as humans from early childhood through adult. In the course of seeking discovery and process, mistakes will surely accompany you inevitably. As infants we learn how to walk by falling down again and again. As students, we improve our solutions to certain problems only by means of adjusting process or methods compared with the former false ones, thereby establishing an effective solution that will benefits us lifelong to all issues. And, in pursuing career most of us will find the career path that suits us only by trying jobs that do not.

This same principle also applies on a scientific level. Consider, for example, any new theory must be tested by empirical observation, and must withdraw rigorous scientific scrutiny. Moreover, the history of theoretical science is essentially a history of trial-and-error. A case in point is that Copernicus’s theory of heliocentricism, a great achievement in astronomy. Yet, his great discovery contradicted the traditional and in-powered theological canon which dictated geocentricism. It was nearly a hundred years later, after years of observation with his telescope, that Galileo convinced him of the truth of Copernicus’s heliocentric theory. And the achievement was already secured.

The value of trial-and-error is not limited to the sciences. In government and politics, progress usually come from the understanding of mistakes. Government learn from the mistakes from previous established institutions in the course of chasing the ultimate goal by adjusting the macroscopical policies. Without recognizing these mistakes, the government would go no way but repeat executing political oppression and tyranny.

Having acknowledged the importance of mistakes in making discovery and progress, I nevertheless have to mention that there still exist some scientific accomplishments achieved in coincidence. History is replete with such examples. For example, Scottish physician Fleming accidentally discovered the ability of molds to destroy sickness-causing bacteria, when he notices that mold growing on a staphylococcus culture had killed parts of the culture. Penicillin, the antibiotic derived from mold, allows doctors to easily treat patients for a variety of ailments previously considered incurable, including pneumonia, tetanus as well as more mundane illnesses like respiratory and ear infections.

In sum, a number of scientific achievements are just accidental ones under some circumstances. Nevertheless, I agree with the speaker’s assertion that it is through mistakes that discovery and true progress are made. Indeed, our personal growth as individuals, as well as advances in science and other realms, depends on making mistakes.

觉得你写得很不错呀，学习学习。
提一点意见，仅供参考：

1 B2觉得说的意思是不是与题目不太一致，至少觉得不太贴切。应该是要说一个人或一群人经过犯了一些错误，然后找到正确的发现或有进步，而不是后人更正前人的谬误吧。
但你的这种说法好象也有道理，不知道别人如何理解。

2 B3其实可以写得充实些，否则显得太模糊，不明确。多写两句话，至少能多出50字来吧。

3 字数方面，据前辈们讲应该多写一些，500多字吧，甚至有牛人说最好要过600呢。我也觉得能尽量多写一些肯定不吃亏。

你举的例子中的词汇都很专业呀。这样的例子就算我想得到，估计也难以说清楚。佩服呢。
