China is gradually disappeared from my life.  I rarely see balck hair with dark brown eyes people who can  speak chinese with me at my campus.  Today , i've been in america for more than a month, i n fact, i  realized that i've been in a totally different country just  at the day before yesterday . my school is located in pittsburgh,PA downtow area, pitt and carnegie mellon are a couple of miles away.  But so far, i feel so dull about this  school.  ppl are not nice especially male students here. they are so indifferent to me.

there are a number of reasons why i felt dull as firstly lived here. First of all, People here  gave me less concerns as i'm an international student. some people told me it needs time to get along well.  who knows when it will take, i think it depends on individule as well. As i'm a very outgoing person in China, i have much trouble communicating with them not only on language. i cant imagin howthe  other chinese students here are dealing with. i guess you should be very very active then you can get some chance to talk with somebody, but not for a long time. i dont know why.

Second, you may not be conscious of the prices of stuff in pittsburgh is almost the same as in NYC.  only 4 test books with one USB cost me 942$  that is RMB !!!!! ,so hardly can buy any books in the united states. Damn, that's incredible. well ,generally, you choose 14-17 credits as a freshman, that is 5 courses or so. you will have to buy 9-10 test books at least, how much a forturn have been cost! ? so life here can be very frustrating if you dont get prepared for the dollor price here. at least, i've been very frustrated already.  Food is not a good deal here too campared to China.but i know it's not comparable.

i want to warn you that if you dont get well prepared for american college study, and you may still at the predeparture, DO NOT go to pittsburgh, especially my school, cause there are really FEW chinese students. i  havn't read chinese and talk with chinese ppl a while except my parents. i am 100 percent sure everybody will miss your original  life and wonder what has it been like after you settled here 2 months and more.
If you go to pittsburgh, a typical american city, you will be hard finding chinese stuff and chinese ppl. you will probably be involved in american group completely. Besides, that's not easy to make the situation above, cause that case is based on you have fluent english to talk with americans. Not suprisingly, how bad your english really is after you live here. that's unberable.  i'm not sure whether you could stand that or....

As a whole, my life here sucks now. i had much view of blond or dirty blond hair instead of black hair, living with people's indiffrence.  o well...... you know, people usually leave you alone when you confront many dificulties that come from the langugae and culture that could be much worse if they still leaving you alone!

常函数吓得慌忙躲藏，说：“被它微分一下，我就什么都没有啦！”
指数函数不慌不忙道：“它可不能把我怎么样，我是e的x次方！”
指数函数与微分算子相遇。
指数函数自我介绍道：“你好，我是e的x次方。”
微分算子道：“你好，我是‘d/dy！’

楼主读的是那所大学?大家知道了以后就可以避免去申请这个学校了,呵呵:D:D:D

你在那里感到很困惑吗?似乎看着你很不开心.调节一下心态会不会好一点呢?楼主,你在的学校是什么,你学什么专业的?

To #4 , i'm currently enrolled at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh,PA.

i'm a business major studying core coursed that are required for all freshman at this time.

Correct, i'm kinda depressed. i hated america sometimes . ~ Peace~

不会吧，匹兹堡中国人挺多的啊，我同学在CMU,他老婆在PU,到处都是中国人啊，楼主怎么会看不到呢？就算我在白人最多的西部，中国人还是随处可见。我们这边的华人教会每周都会有聚会，并不一定必须是教徒才能参加，实际上它更像是一个当地华人的固定的聚会，每次都有最少几十号中国人参加，有上学的，也有工作的，但是大家就像一个大家庭一样，感觉非常好。

如果楼主确实想多交一些当地的中国朋友，我可以把我同学的联系方式给你。不过我觉得对你而言更为重要的是调整好自己的心态，因为既然来到美国求学，就应该有这方面的准备，而且换个角度来讲，你现在的环境也许更有利于你更快的融入其中（包括语言，生活习惯，文化等等），这是我很羡慕的。

Anyway,祝你在PA 一切顺利！

There are too many Chinese every where. Perhaps, you do not find them.
And you have too much chance to practise your spoken English if the case is as you described.
:)
Too few students buy new books, even American students.
You can borrow from library and from other students.
I bought books on ebay, too cheap. although, they are not totally new, there is no mark on the books. And almost used books are relatively new. Why not buy these kinds of books?
Of course, our library has the text books.

Here, there are few people in the street, and the life style is unlike that of Shanghai or Beijing.
The primary objective is to study, currently, so why admire that life style.
Of course, big city has higher cost level.
If you salary is just more than $1000, small city or town perhaps is better to live.
