Shanghai: a guy interviewed me and it lasted for 2 minutes,I guess. It was an easy pass.It seemed to me that he had already decided to let me go even before we started up. His "full-time job" was dealing with his computer and his part time job was asking me questions, interestingly.Almost no eye-contact.What they have is absolute power.
He: so you are going to Dartmouth College, huh? And it's a M.A program. What exactly are you going to study?
Me: It's a very special program, because it's interdiciplinary and students gotta develop their own curriculum as well as their focus of study. And I am going to study cross-cultural communication.
He: I see. When you say cross-cultural communication, you mean which two countries?
Me: Of course between my home country and your country.
He: So which part of culture are you interested in?
Me: All parts,I would say.Culture is a very broad and profound thing.I am kind of ambitious and I want to look at it from different perspectives, tradition, mentality, customs, language, ect. but I do want to make my study more of practical, say,I can make my research available to international business or trade.I mean, those people need to know the differences between the two cultures.
He: Sounds interesting? So what thesis are you going to write about?
Me: Thesis? I'm sorry, but I can not tell you for now. I guess it's too early to tell. Maybe after I take enough courses at Dartmouth.
He: Ok,then why Dartmouth?
Me: Well,it's a good school,Ivy league,as you must know. They give me scholarship. Also,it's not big, unlike other Ivy schools.Their class size is small, which we do not have the luxury to enjoy here in China.
He: Mr.XXXXX,you'll have no problem in the States.Good luck!
Me: Thanks for your work.Have a good day. SMILE...........................TRYING TO LOOK INTO HIS EYES~!~
P.S it was all about my study and my school. No questions about my financial proof or why I will come back after I get my degree or whatever.
