It is often necessary, even desirable, for political leaders to withhold information from the public.

1. 部分赞成此观点，提出是否需要隐瞒必须以维护社会稳定和人民利益为标准
2. 一方面领导需要坚持自我，不然无法确立威信。而且一些关乎国家发展的战略问题不一定需要公之于众
3. 另一方面，人民有知情权，需要参与国家发展，并且对领导需要必要的监督
4. 如何取舍那就需要一个有才能的领导审时度势，从维护社会稳定和人民利益为出发点
5. 总结
With the development of the society, more and more people pay much attention not only on what they eat and use, but also on the spirit life and the trend of world development. Once the US hold the President selection, it will attract the eyes from all over the world. It is clear that the political leaders play much important role at present, while it is also clear that many common people want to know even take part in political events.  I partially agree with the author's opinion. But whether withhold information from the public depends on whether the leaders do his best for the development of society and the benefits of human being.

On the one hand, in order to hold his reputation, the political leader must withhold information from the public.  Common sense tells us that if a leader is complete forthrightness, it means that he is vulnerability and naivety. Then he will lose his political respects among the residents and even his opponents. Moreover, the leader must withhold some information which has something to do with the safety of nation and its people, once these formation disclose, it will result in many danger to the nation. For example, Roosevelt, the former president, conducted the research about the atomic bomb secretly till the bomb put into use at the end of the WWT. Without hold this strategy, we cannot imagine the thing that once the Nazi have this special weapon.

On the other hand, the people have the rights to know the truth. Sometimes if the political leader withholds information from the public, it will arise dissatisfied among people and make the society unstable. We all know that the common people are the host of the nation, what the power and right the leader has is given by common people. Furthermore, what the leader the people need is those who have good mental and ethic. For example, the former president Nixon withholds information about his active role in the Watergate cover-up then loses the president. The former presidents Clinton also is dishonest about his sex in private then was considered dishonest even he gain achievement on the development of nation.

Moreover, it is possible that whether withholding information or disclosing information from the public is a difficult choice for the leaders. In my opinion, only insisting on one pole or another is not wise for the leader. Now we must come back what the leader's responsibility? It is clear that the duty of the leader is to lead the nation walking on its way which is suitable for the nation and to make the society stability and prosperity. Whether withhold information from public depend on it will have good or bad result and effect on the stability of the society and the benefits of the human being. For example, when the SARS just emerged at some place in Beijing, the mayor did not tell the serious event to common people but withhold the information then cause many people did not take it serious and did not have method to control.

In sum, I partial agree with the opinion of author. Whether withhold information from public depend on it will have good or bad result and effect on the stability of the society and the benefits of the human being.
