issue 208
The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people.

I strongly agree with the speaker's first assertion insofar as that we could , more or less, obtain a person's attitudes and interests through his or her appearances and manners. But special exams exist and have influences on our daily life just as the Chinese old saying said that you can't judge a person only by his or her appearance. However, the author's second assertion that the appearance and behavior of its people would determine the society's values, to some extent, disobey the common sense of philosophy.
In some cases, we could judge a person through his or her appearance and manners. As is known to all, the manners could reflect people's hobbies, interests and attitudes towards issues. Moreover, a group of people shared the similar appearance congregate as a result of the same occupation. A myriad of simple examples easily substantiate it. Workers in a same factory must have got the same or at least uniform work clothes. In a senior school in my hometown, uniform clothes are required to wear every day whatever season it is. Professors in universities commonly not only wear glasses but also are tidily dressed. But the rock-and-roll singers almost entirely wear erratic and flamboyant clothes. It is hard to mistake a rock-and-roll singer for a university profession for a normal person. One person's manners come into fixing after enduring a long time which could be hardly changed. Office workers especially white-colors keep going to corporations or firms on settled timetable. But people out of work maybe wait or seek for their new occupations. They probably have to go to the mobile dwellings with dinners having at a nearer place. We could distinguish them from their manners.
Admittedly, we could judge personality according to the appearance and manners. However, invalidation of these estimation sometimes occurs on occasional places. In our traditional minds, thieves were dirty, wicked and always men. As the society develops, the common sense should change due to the performer's unbelievable changing. The modern thieves wear just like white-colors with warm-hearted appearance. Furthermore, they would probably be children or women even who are pregnant-no matter true or false. We could only regret the losing of our wallets when overlooks this increasing trend. Another convincing instance is as following. An increasing number of news of chicanes are reported all around the country. Perhaps you are aware of tricks and confidential never to be the victims. To believe or not, hardly can you avoid accepting the swindlers tricks when it comes to you suddenly due to the base instincts like hate, greed and lust for power and domination. It is possible that we are easily drawn to the uncontrolled situation, let alone losing wealth.
The general appearance and interests may reflect people's common attitudes and interests. However, the appearance and behavior of its people could not determine the society's ideas and values as the author claim. The form of society's value will surely endure a long time which may last until the system of the society disintegrates. It has been proved to be existing in the bottom of the human-beings hearts which render it impossible to be determined by appearance.
In sum, on one hand, the author's assertion that we could mostly obtain people's attitudes and interests through their appearance and manners is quite true. However, this is not always the case since special situation exist as the society develops. Nevertheless, we should settle with this matter in dual positions. On the other hand, the author fails to claim that the society's values are determined by its people's appearance and behavior.
