题目：ISSUE61 - "High-profile awards such as the Nobel Prize are actually damaging to society because they suggest that only a few people deserve such recognition."

There are always some controversial discussions concerning the pros and cons of awards, especially the so-called high-profile award like the Nobel Prize, or the Pulitzer Prize for Literature, and so forth. In my observation, this kind of awards definitely generate some positive effect by endowing to the distinguished celebrities who deserving this high prize.

It is true that the number of people who can enjoy these high-profile awards is extremely small. Every year or season, there will be a multitude of elite participating in the competition of winning the awards, while most of them will have to be rejected back home without anything. Therefore, some of people would argue that these awards exert a rather negative effect for they discourage the passion and love of those who devote themselves or their whole life to the career. However, this sort of assertion is just like focusing on a tiny dust on the brilliant and astounding jewelry, criticizing the defects while ignoring the great significance it has.

In the first place, the significant importance of providing the awards to those receivers can never be underestimated. Being recognized and renowned by such great glory can endow these individuals with extremely huge confidence and sense of accomplishment, and with the help of the acknowledgement, they are more prone to achieve more magnificent accomplishment. Looking back into the history of physical science, there are a multitude of receivers who obtain even more scientific discoveries and inventions after they were given these glories. Therefore, as a prize and an affirmative recognition, the awards exert such a great positive influence to those receivers encouraging them to stride further in their own fields.

In addition, one could not deny the dominant impetus to the other people when giving the awards to these distinguished individuals. As is known to all, the strong desire of success and being recognized and acknowledged exists is the bottom heart of every individual. Human nature determines the fact that human beings will be encouraged and spurred when we are given the hope or possibility to win the prize and benefit. With the strong ambition and desire to access the honor of success, great effort will be paid by those people and thus it lead to splendid achievement and accomplishment in their branches of science. Through this method, the development of science and technology and therefore the human society as a whole will be maintained. In retrospect, there are myriads of paradigmatic examples illustrating this point. I can still remember the words when a distinguish scientist said when he received the glory of Nobel Prize (and I paraphrases). "Apart from the true love of my career, It is the pursuit of this glory stimulates all the time and leads to come here to share the success with you" From this we can clearly see the huge impetus generated by these awards, and it is therefore, reasonable for us to carry on the high-profile awards.

To sum up, the benefits brought by these awards outweigh the negative influences. Those kinds of awards can fundamentally generate great positive effect by endowing the distinguished celebrities with affirmation and stimulating those who are eager to do that.
