老师的薪水是否应该与学生的能力有关

Every student has distinctive capabilities and characters. Some can play piano, some can draw photographs as artists and some have gifts on academic programs. Therefore, it is not reasonable to decide their teachers’ incomes according to students’ fulfillment, because teachers’ responsibility is to guide and encourage students instead of forwarding them abilities and genius in some specific subjects. Students have their talents and hobbies.

First of all, some of the students’ capacities are developed by families’ backgrounds and environment, which should not have any connection with teachers at schools. It happened that there are several children in many classes who are learning musical instruments and some of them can perform as well as they are professional. But considering those students’ parents and background, it is easy to find out they were born in musician families or have gifts in such areas. The view should be supported that it is their parents and environment that assist them to complete well. Teachers could provide better suggestions and encouragement when students are in need, which will actually be helpful. However, if teachers’ income can be judged by students’ abilities, that would be a little unfair to other teachers who have no musicians or students with special gifts in their classes. For instance, there is a Chinese American kid in a Chinese elementary school. His English is as perfect as an American but also can speak good Chinese. People would trust that his parents must teach him a lot in both Chinese and English when he was a baby. Meanwhile, it will bring frustration to other teachers if the American Chinese student’s teacher has a higher salary due to that student had a better performance in an English competition than others.

Furthermore, teachers’ income should not be connected with students’ competence as it may result in side effect. From then on, students will be treated in different ways. Those who have gifts and can do well in academic programs will be concerned more. Probably they could gain special right, such as do not need to finish homework or clean classroom, just because they can improve their teachers’ salaries. Other students with average abilities will feel depressed and may not be interested in school works any more. But in fact, they need encouragement and assistance to get progress.

In conclusion, students’ capacities should not become one of the requirements to decide teachers’ income as it will not lead to active consequence as well as bring negatives to both teachers and students.
