anyone can make things bigger and more complex. what requires real effort and courage is to move in the opposite direction-in other words, to make things as simple as possible.

I do agree with this statement that making things simpler requires more effort and courage than making things complex. Though our society experienced a process of being full of more and more complex technical products and social organization, we can still conclude that people need more effort to simplify unknown things than complicate them for the following reasons.

First of all, it is the fundamental characteristics of human to make things simpler and easier. Since our ancestor’s first glance at the planet, we are trying to explore and understand the world as a simpler one. Some one may argue that we are inventing more and more complex things, such as space shuttle, super computer , complex social system and so on which are good proofs to the complication of human’s behavior. However, the increasing number of modern technical products and social organization dose not means that our society is getting progress by making more and more complex things. If we consider the development history of computer, for instance, we would find that people are trying to simplify computer since its invention in 1946. Limited by technical level, the first computer was designed with complex structure and components and it was impossible for individual to install a computer with simple components. Nowadays, by people’s great effort and courage on simplification of the computer structure and components, one can construct a personal computer with very cheap and common components. Look around, you will find that our society and history is full of examples, such as cell phone, TV and so on, which demonstrate people’s tendency and endeavor on simplification of the world.

Since human beings are trying to making things simple, we just can not stop to ask : why people make so much effort on simplification of the world? The answer is that making things simple helps us to understand the essence of the unknown issues. Let’s take the physics development process as example. Before Newton’s theory, it was thought that force and movement of the objects is quite unrelated. However, by abstract the various phenomenon of objects movement, Newton’s theory tells us the relationship between the force and movement by three simple mathematic equations. All the movement of different objects can be described and predicted by the three simple equations. Since then, by utilizing these theory , our understanding of the world was greatly improved and many new inventions which enlarged our ability are based on this theory. In science history research, one consensus is that the simpler theory rather than complex theory has greater impact on human society since the simple one usually abstract more essence of the unknown object.

Though human has strong hope for simplification of the world, through which we can get further understanding of the world, the approach to simplify the unknown issues will not come and knock our doors automatically until we make great effort to find it. Carefully observation, insight contemplate, systematic analysis are indispensable in the process of establishing new theory to make things simpler. Sometimes, even inspiration is necessary for this process. The process of the foundation is full of failure, frustration and torture. Before the invention of relation theory, Einstein had been confused by the controversial issue in Newton’s theory for 15 years, during which he suffered many failures, loneness and misunderstanding. Many people are working to simplify the world but only very few of them ,who posses all the necessary requirements could withhold this process to get the final destination. Each step on simplification of the world which contains thousands times of failure, thousands people’s endavour is a tough step.

To sum, the simplification of the world is the power resource which pull our society move forward. Recognizing the great effect and tough process of making things simpler will drive us to conclude that it is simplification, rather than complication, requires more effort and courage. When we understand this issue, it would be easy to understand why people like Newton, Einstein and so on will be remembered by all the human beings.
