The argument is well-presented, but not thoroughly well-reasoned. In order to reduce flight delays ,the airport management wants to build new runways to increase capacity but can only do soby filling in 900 acres of the bay. Despite the boycott of local citizen, the airport management suggested that it will fund the restoration of 1,000 acres of wetlands in areas of the bay that have previously been damaged by industrialization to offset the harm to the wildlife. The argument for that seems logical.
However, such environment cannot get better again once destroyed, especially the 900 acres of the bay that filled. So as the wetland ,it must cost much money to restore 1000 acres of wetland, and there maybe no effects. Just think of the sahara dessert, it’s impossible to plant any trees to change the just one part of dessert into one acre of forest. Another case to this point is in north China ,the local government spend many years preventing the expended sandstorm with an amount of methods ,finally ,there’s no any improvement about the environment. Thus the best way to protect the environment is not to spend much money to rebuild the system of ecology, but to save the present environmental condition.
When it comes to the flight delay, the limited square may not be the only reason for that. For instance, a failure in arranging the arrival and departure of the flight could be the cause to the flight delay. In addition, the equipments are not perfect to guide the right position for the flights, which result in the waste of airport square .so before the decision, the manager of the airport should specify that what on earth the main reason for the delay of the flight is rather than enlarging the square as the only mean to solve the problem while overlook the danger of doing so.
Overall, building new runways to improve the airport condition in order to put an end to the flight delay is somewhat reasonable, however the cost of 900 acres of the bay is too much ,the issue proposed by the company of improving the environment of wetland to counteract the loss of the bay is not all that feasible. Before any final decision are made , the citizens and officials of airport department should evaluate all possible alternatives to reduce the losses to a minimum and make the maximizing profits.
