希望大家猛烈批评,我也会努力改进的!
In recent years, the value of socialization of children is much concerned to a point where a wide range of discussion has been aroused. Some people maintain that it is the degree of children’ socialization determines the fate of our society, and we find no ways to educate them to build a better society. In weighing up both the prospective benefits and potential risks, to large extent, however, I am on the opposite side of this claim.

Firstly, I have to concede that socialization is an essential element of people’characteristics. For the individual, it provides the resources necessary for acting and participating within their society. For the society, inducing all individual members into its moral norms, attitudes, values, motives, social roles, language and symbols is the means by which social and cultural continuity are attained. As the pace of our society is increasing constantly, parents are much more concerned about the skills and knowdegde children acquired, and neglect the quality of psychology and morals, which these children can not adapt to the competive society.

However, consider the author’s first assertion that society’s destiny depends on how children are socialized. Socialization is only one factor influencing the extent to which an individual will contribute to a better society and it is even not the important one. This claim, to large extent, is an illogical conception which indicates misplaced values and can largely result in disastrous consequences. Values such as honesty, persistence, probity, kindness and so on are core lessens inculcated by parents and school systems. If too much emphasis is placed on socialization, the society will run the risk of being messed up.

In addition to this, consider the author’s next claim that we have not yet learned how to raise children who know to create a better society. If we define a “better” society as one characterized by greater tolerance of viewpoints and people who are different from ourselves, greater respect for individual rights, and greater cooperation across cultural and national boundaries, then the young people of the most recent half century are creationg a better society. We have seen increasing sensitivity in our society toward ensuring public health by policing the food and drug industies and by protecting our natural environment. We can view these young people as being more sensitive to and respectful of the rights of women, various ethnic and racial groups, homosexuals and so on. We can not afford a definite way to educate our children how to build a better society, but the more important thing is we do have ways.

To sum up, there is no easy conclusion to such a complex issue. However, taking into account all the dimensions discussed in the above analysis might be a decisive step out of this delemma. The time has come to rethink what determines the destiny of society and how it relates to a better one.
