TOPIC: ISSUE48 - "The study of history places too much emphasis on individuals. The most significant events and trends in history were made possible not by the famous few, but by groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten."

The speaker claims that most significant events and trends in history were made by groups rather than few individuals, and the study of history should emphasis groups instead of individual. I agree with the speaker's assertion that, study of individual is necessary, groups are likewise important in history study.

It is necessarily though individuals that can reflect the history with a certain range. Individuals are the represents of groups and they play a significant role in pushing the history forward. Though they can't provide all aspects of history, individuals' influence of history couldn't be ignored. For example, Columbus was a great explorer and navigator and with his four voyages of exploration and several attempts, led to general European awareness of the American continents in the Western Hemisphere. Because individuals are easier to be remembered and noted, there were also many history literatures which record heroes, emperors, artistes in the library. Individuals are not only important for history study but also have a great value at present. Great heroes, scientists, artists can give us a good example and inspiration to our minds. The representative of American dream, such as Ford, Edison, Rockefeller, encourage us that normal people can achieve their dreams though hard working and wisdom.

However, individuals' condition can't reflect every aspects of history which was made by groups. The most significant events and history trends should be identified by groups because history is the expression of people's behaviors. For example we can't say every ancient Greek were wisdom because Aristotle was bright. Emphasis too much on individual will implant the individual heroism in the mind of people. But individual heroism no longer be used in the society which pay more attention on the spirit of cooperation. There were many great business success and scientific discoveries were result of teamwork.

The behavior of groups can reflect the history more real and objective. Many revolutions in history are the expression of groups' behavior. The American Revolution, however, which has few leaders, reflect the wish of American to break free from the British Empire. It was a war which the people were the primary power and rewriting the history of American. It also applies to the World War. Without the effort of every country’s people in the world, Nazi can't be defeated so fast. All these example illustrate groups can't be ignored in the study of history.

In sum, I think the speaker's view is partly right. Groups of people have great effect on significant events and trends in history, though there were many great heroes and leaders in our memory, and we shouldn't emphasis too much on individuals or forget the efforts made by groups of people in the study of history.

【基本上还行，但是第三段过渡段觉得不太必要。因为团结其实并不代表人们心中没有英雄，其实往往人们总是因为心中有同样的榜样或者伟人的光辉形象才团结在一起。。。】
