50,In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic in professions relevant to the course they teach. 时间约一个半小时 字数650 I can partly agree with the speaker’s claim. In my opinions, it is necessary for most of the faculty in college and university to work outside the academic in professions relevant to the course they teach, in virtue of the experience and information, which can be substantiated by the following discussions. Taking part in the work could give teachers much new progress and information about the courses they teach in college and university, which can make their lectures filled with new information that don’t exist in the textbooks and is appealing to the students. It is entirely possible that teachers without professional experience simply pass on the information they learned from their predecessors and books they have read many years ago to their students. By working in the jobs relevant to their academics, the teachers could learn some new skills such as use of some professional software, and use of some advanced measuring instruments, which can easily arouse the interest of students in studying the relevant courses. As we know, the most developed knowledge and skills are always coming from the practice process, rather than studying progress. Knowledge imparted within the classroom is not enough for the students’ survival in their particular profession in today’s fiercely competitive world. Moreover, the practical experience from the work could illustrate the complex descriptions and nonrepresentational theory in textbooks. As we know, combination of the theory and actual experience can be brief and sufficient. For example, when the textbook is describing a process of producing a kind of material, which is made up by a series of process steps, the students often find it difficult to master every step filled with various of standards and procedures. But if the teacher has ever worked in a factory and has known the practical way the factory used to produced the material. The students may find that some of the standards are not necessary and some steps are optional. So the students can know what step it is necessary to master and what are those to just give a glimpse to. The practical experience from the teacher gives students a brief and effective direction to study, so that the quality of the instruction can be improved. The teachers who have enough work experience also own the ability of giving some career planning guidance to their students. The students can get known about the information of the working circumstance and the trend and prospects of some careers. All those information which matters the attribute towards a job is decisive when college students consider their careers of choices. Not only the students but also teachers can benefit from the inspiration and motivation from working outside their academics. Compared with teaching in classroom and researching in laboratories, they are faced with a relatively new and different environment during the process of dealing an actual problem in a factory or a firm. In this case, teachers can really know what problems will be met in practical activity and what kind of techniques will be in great need in market, which motivates them to spend more time in resolving these problems. Moreover, the work experience can also provide some inspiration, which always comes from everyday life experience and can’t be available to in laboratory. When the quality of teachers is improved by the work outside their academics, the quality of the instructions will be improved as well. Of course, not all faculty should be required to take part in such a job. Some teachers in some disciplines don’t have enough time to do another job. What’s more, it is not sure that there is enough jobs for teachers to choose. So the education institutions should encourage teachers to spend their time in such jobs rather than require all teachers to do as they suggest. 谢谢啊 |
