In the reading passage, the author says that what Chevalier demonstrated in the memoir is not true. However, the professor cast doubt on what the reading material stated, she argues that the memoir Chevalier wrote is reliable. Here are the details.

First, the writer in the reading believes that if Chevalier is as wealthy as he is described in the memoir, he definitely not necessary to borrow money from others. In contrast, the lecturer argues that it is true that Chevalier is wealthy in Switzerland, but it is just at the beginning. Later on, he spent his money on parties and gambling etc. Therefore, he had to borrow money from others.

Second, contrary to what indicated in the reading material, the author contends that it is impossible for Chevalier to write about the conversation between Voltaire and him so accurate after many years, the professor in the listening refutes that Chevalier noted everything down during their talk, so it is not surprise that Chevalier captured the conversation clearly after a long time.

Finally, the reading holds the point of view that since Chevalier had so many politically well-connected friends, he did not need to run from prison. Notwithstanding, the lecturer contradicts that there are people who had more political friends than Chevalier, they also had to escape from prison. What’s more, the ceiling which was destroyed by Chevalier when he fled from prison repaired now can verify the thing Chevalier exactly did.

这点错了。教授是说他有很多财产，但手头可能没现金。变卖财产要些时间，这期间他没钱他才去借钱。
