The Computational Imaging and Inverse Problems Group directed by Prof. Bo Zhao at the University of Texas at Austin (UT-Austin) is looking for a highly-motivated Ph.D. student who is interested in the intersection between computational imaging, machine learning, and inverse problems.
Prospective Ph.D. students should have a B.S. and/or M.S. degree in electrical engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, statistics, or a related area and should be very passionate about exploring unknowns in scientific research. Prospective students are expected to have:
- Great research interests in the intersection of data science, computational science, and imaging science
- Solid mathematical foundations (e.g., linear algebra, probability, statistics, optimization)
- Strong coding skills in one of the computing languages, such as Python, MATLAB, and/or Julia
- Excellent English communication and writing skills
The Ph.D. student will be supported as a research assistant at the Graduate Program of Computational Science, Engineering, and Mathematics (CSEM). The student will have access to the outstanding computing resources at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC), which hosts Frontera, one of the top 10 supercomputers in the world. The student will also have access to the outstanding imaging facilities and will have chance to collaborate with clinicians to impact the field of healthcare with the cutting-edge research in machine learning and artificial intelligence.

The university is located in the city of Austin, which is the capital of Texas.
