Is education only truly effective when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests? The speaker says yes. I disagree with the speaker, although interests is very important in education, however, it is difficult to conduct what the speaker thinks.
Admittedly, when the students learn and study for their interests, they can be more powerful in pursuit the knowledge, and can make more achievement in their future if they continue this interesting. We always say: interest is the best teacher. It is true. We all know that many stories about our famous people who pursuit their own interests.
But, if our education meets every individual's interests, our society will be dysfunctional. In our world, there are many occupations which are considered as less of interests, although these occupations are indispensable, such as cleaner, wall painter, bus driver, etc. Few people show interests to such service occupations in their early age. If we only conduct our education on their interests, and their will be fewer people who engage in the public service. In fact, many of our interests in occupation are formed in the time when we are engaged in the jobs. There is a famous Chinese words: do a job, and love a job. In this world, every industry is indispensable, but our children only are interesting on only some major realm, such as science, business, economic, art, politics. However, there occupations in these realms are limited, not everyone can be a scientist, an economist, a dentist, an artist, a political leader. There are so many occupations in our society which make the society and the whole world operating well. If we teach our every child by their needs and interests, few of them will be engaged in these occupations, and our society will be dysfunctional, without pipe worker, without bus driver, and without welfare. These interests come from some events, and usually from a story, or they are just for showing up, as I have done in my childhood. I shifted my interests almost every year, and a story about an artist, or a mathematician or a sailor had change the interest in my mind greatly. Even I cannot tell the true interest of myself. Can teachers and parents meet the interests of a child as I? Definitely not.
Moreover, can we meet the real need and interests of our student? Maybe not. Common sense informs me that people always change their interests as they growing up. To myself, I have had various interests, as picture drawing, reading, mathematics, geographic and history when I was a student. Could my teacher meet all my interesting? And I showed the passion to each only for a short time, so, would my teacher shift their concern to my latter interest as I wanted? Maybe this example is too extreme, however, it is highly possible-a child always does not know their actually interests. By the study of new courses, they probably shift their interests from one to another frequently. Even an adult, may give up what they had learned before.
Sometimes, we probably do not know the interest of our students. We can take Da Vinci as an example, if he were lived in today's world, he would probably show the interests in every aspects we can inform, as science, architecture, sculpture, painting, mathematics, etc, as he showed in his own period. However, our teacher may only find out his one or two interests, then only cultivate him in these aspects but neglect others. Thus we will miss a great gifted talent and only make a normal painter or mathematician.
In sum, although interest is very important in children's education, we still can not meet every individual's interests. We can let our children to learn such aspects by themselves, and offer them more spare time, thus they can truly find and pursuit their own interests.
