TOPIC: ISSUE130 - "How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."

The author assert that the socialization of children determines the destiny of society and that we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society. When it comes to the author's first assertion, I concede that how children are socialized today determines the destiny of society to some degree, however other factors also equally responsible for the destiny of society. Then with the second assertion, although they are some foible in our society, we have already learnt how to raise children who can help bring about a better society.

Turning first to the author's board assertion, we can not deny the facts that how children are socialized today, more or less, determine the destiny of society. Society is process that the children learn the language, the culture of the nation and how to get along with other people thus to function as a part of the society. As soon as we are born, we begin socialization. When we were never old enough to go the school, we played with our parents and we learnt the language and the basic culture of the nation. When we are older, we go to school and play with other students and communicate with the teachers, during which we learnt all kinds of knowledge and learn how to get along with other people. All of these are essential in our later life and thus determine the destiny of society to some extend.

However socialization of the child is not the only factor that determines the destiny of society. Though socialization always taken place at an early age, it can also happen when we have grown to an adult. When we graduate form the university and enter the society, the atmosphere changes significantly. The rules in the university no longer useful and we have to start from the beginning. During the period we learn how to collaborate with co-worker and how to satisfied the leader, the socialization also taken place on us and this happened all the time no matter we realize it or not. In addition, other factors such as tenacity, conviction, diligence also play a key role in the success of us human being and the society. An example come to my mind is that of Martin Luther King and Gandhi, without tenacity and conviction of their beliefs, how could they face those threats placed on them. So socialization of children and other factors play an equal role in shaping our society.

Now coming next to the author's second assertion，which flies in the face of the facts that the modern society has experienced great improvement both in the morality and other field. We can now witness children of different nation, racial and culture work and play together. They can get along quite well with each other, tolerance opinion of others and respect people different form them. We can also see black people do not need to sit in the back of the bus and women have the same opportunity as the men do. All these indicate that we have already learnt how to raise children.

However in raising the children we are not that perfect. Nowadays, we can see not a lot of divorce, family violence and so on and a lot of parent lack the basic knowledge to raise the children. A child from a family with family violence may undergo the abuse of the parents which may lead him to be mental illness or anti-social. After he goes to the society and gets married, it is highly possible that he will do the same to his child which could be a disaster to our society.

To sum up, I fundamental disagree with both of the author’ assertion for the reason that socialization is only one factor that determine the destiny of society and now we have done a quite good job in raising children through there are some defect in our society.
