It appears plausible that tradition and modernization cannot be achieved at the same time and thus one should make a choice between the two. However, that is not the case. I disagree with the assertion above, and I believe both are cornerstones of the well-being of the society.
To begin with, I concede that in some cases, traditional things are inferior to modern things and should be replaced by the latter. For example, The Great Revolution of industrialization introduced machines into production. Human beings no longer need to repeat boring actions and man can control the process only by pressing several buttons or operating on machines. Since the machines will not feel tired, it can keep the flowing of turning out productions. Also, the machines always turn out productions with the same standard and are less likely to make errors. Though it appears modernization in industries has many advantages of the old hand-made producing pattern.
Yet not all the industries are mechanized. Some traditional artificial productions still require human beings. These productions which need delicate work including sewing, carving, and the like cannot be replaced by machines. Therefore, the modernizations still leave space for tradition. (This is a new idea. So why not develop another paragraph to prove this new one? I think if you put the idea on the fore-paragraph, it will make people confused because those two concepts are contrary.)
Besides, most of the case, one will find that both modernization and tradition are indispensable in one's life. For example, in the past, people traveled mainly by horse, by ship, or just on foot. It took several months to travel across the sea, and it would be impossible for one to travel around the world within lifetime. Since the modernization brings us airplanes, trains, cars, and so on. These facilities dramatically improve the quality of life. One can easily travel across the Atlantic Ocean in several hours on a plane. While modern ways greatly save people's time, it is still popular to drift in a boat, ride on the back of a horse. Because tradition attracts people by its everlasting casualty and a feeling of relaxing, modernization saves time but leave modern life running in a rush. Tradition then help people release the tension caused by modernization and serve to compensate for the disadvantage brought about by modernization. (What is the disadvantage of modernization? I cannot find it from your passage. )
In addition, the pattern of communication calls for a balance in which there are both modernization and tradition. There is no doubt that technology leads to the information age, in which people use modern ways to contact each other. For example, there is no need to stick a stamp and mail a letter, one can just write an e-mail on the computer and then press the button to send it. Within seconds, the other side will receive it and get the information. With a computer, one can know what happened all over the world and contact friends without leaving room. This convenience also leads to the indifference between human beings. Since the chance of face-to-face communication is lessened. Without seeing the other one's face, you cannot judge what he or she is really thinking about (I don’t think it is easily to see through somebody by his or her expression and appearance), you may contact without true emotions. Traditional way of meeting personally can help people better understand each other through the body posture and expressions on his or her face. Thus modernized communication cannot replace the traditional ones, and both are needed in order to make a better society. (I think mailing letters by sticking stamp is not a good developed example to support your idea. It is easily to get conclusion from this paragraph that an e-mail may show indifferent to others, but you do not tell us what the sticking-stamp letters take to us as a comparison to e-mails)
To sum up, modernization surely has advantage over tradition mostly in the way of producing more materials and makes people wealthier. Nevertheless, the tradition mostly involves the way which contributes to human's mental health. Modern people need a compromise between modernization and tradition, and one can make a balance between the both.
Anyway, this essay is the best of your practices I have ever seen, it is concrete and its expression is very accurate. I can perceive your skills in using words and various sentences.
