题目:ARGUMENT238 - The following appeared in a memorandum from the president of Mira Vista College to the college's board of trustees.
"At nearby Green Mountain College, which has more business courses and more job counselors than does Mira Vista College, 90 percent of last year's graduating seniors had job offers from prospective employers. But at Mira Vista College last year, only 70 percent of the seniors who informed the placement office that they would be seeking employment had found full-time jobs within three months after graduation, and only half of these graduates were employed in their major field of study. To help Mira Vista's graduates find employment, we must offer more courses in business and computer technology and hire additional job counselors to help students with their resumés and interviewing skills."

It stands reason that points in this argument should be logical, cause of its clear statement. Grounding the comparison of nearby Green Mountain College and Mira Vista College in employment and courses' opening in these two colleges, the president of Mira Vista College made this conclusion that his college should offer more courses in business and computer technology and hire additional job counselors as Green Mountain College did to help their students in employment. However, when we have a deep thought, we will find some logical confusion.
Firstly, considering the reliability of this comparison of these two colleges, the president should calculate uncertain factors of it. The information about these two colleges is still unknown; people hold enough excuse doubting this comparison. The environmental factor looks an extremely significant element; the researcher should compare these two colleges completely. Do they possess approximately equal the number of graduate? Whether Green Mountain College is business college and it special focus on the development of skills? All these questions can't be answered without verifying.
Secondly, in spite of the environments of these two colleges, the compared factor in these arguments seems groundless. In this argument, the data that 90 percent of seniors in Green Mountain College had job offers from prospective employers and only 70 percent of the seniors in Mira Vista College had found full-time jobs within three months after graduation is meaningless. The definition of having job offers and having find full-time jobs is promiscuous; these two concepts should be compared. It's extremely possible that most of seniors in Mira Vista College had job offers before graduating; however, they were not satisfied with their job offers and refused their job offers. In spite of the job offers' comparison is unfaithful; the proportion of having found full-time jobs means nothing. These students in Green Mountain College had job offers may gave up their jobs and are still unemployment, the rest of graduate in Mira Vista College may own part-time jobs, which also indicates that the employment’s ability of Mira Vista College is higher.
Finally, the conclusion that Mira Vista College should take the same measure as Green Mountain College in business and computer technology courses and additional job counselors seems feeble. It appear reasonable, however, the president draw an analogy between Mira Vista College and Green Mountain College incorrectly. No evidence could prove that these measure are attribute to the success of employment in Green Mountain College, other measures may be the primary factors to success. If the situation is like that, the president of Mira Vista College should turn to these measures. Other significant problem is neglected, that wetter Mira College demand to take this measure, maybe it has hold more courses in business and computer technology and hire more job counselors than Green Mountain College's. It seems weakly that Mira Vista College should do like Green Mountain College.
Overall, the president of Mira Vista College did apply himself into his/her argument, while at the same time he was making lots of logical mistake. He should do more work on the comparison of these two colleges' environment, instead, make his conclusion blindly. At last, his conclusion shouldn't be accepted; however, his work should be accepted.
